    • What happened is Adobe switched to a new installer technology in June with the 2015.5 release… This new technology does provide some advantages (including speed and parallelization), but the disadvantage is that it’s proprietary and does not use basic industry-standard .exe and .dmg installers.

Regrettably, a great number of customers were left disenfranchised because in many cases they need and depend on direct download links to standard, standalone CC installers to upgrade their software… So Adobe, being a large company, has taken some time to respond to the situation and sort things out and provide the solution, which fortunately they are doing!

  1. Thank you for all you do!
    A question.
I do not I understand, you can download the new installations from the Adobe site, but the 2015.5 and 2015.5.1 version of photoshop, are not the same as the update list on this site? Or the news relates to other programs?
    Thanks again.

    • Yes, that’s correct. Adobe had previously released the direct links for the new version of Photoshop, but only for Photoshop… This latest news primarily relates to the offline installers for all the other apps, which hadn’t yet been made publicly available.

So if you already had been following the story closely on our site, then the big news here is that Adobe added standard ESD installers for other major CC apps in addition to the Photoshop links we published earlier.

      Thanks for helping clarify that.

    • Actually this is possible. As mentioned in the article above, these new installers will install to the disk location and program language that are set in the Preferences of your CC Desktop app (with reasonable defaults)…

So it is possible to install it elsewhere on your computer (e.g., a different drive or partition besides C:\), as well as with a different language – but you have to indicate that beforehand using the Creative Cloud Desktop app.

  2. Thank you for all your effort PD… hopefully InDesign will make the refresh list as well.

Will Adobe keep the Acrobat DC base (trial) updated to the latest version, which, as of now is 2015.017.20053? The latest update is 2015.020.20039 (on the Continuous track).

Having problems (Error 1914) with the latest Acrobat .msp update file with full privileges on a PC. It might be that using VM is the culprit with the update, but the base app installs just fine. I understand what the error implies (scheduling a reboot replacement for AcroRD32.dll), but haven’t found a solution.

It seems that many would rather do a complete reinstall (as with an OS) rather than an incremental version update.

Thank you again (and also to Adobe for bending a little)

    • Hey PT, you’re very welcome. And actually it turns out installer technology for InDesign has not yet been changed by Adobe – the most recent version continues to use standard installers (for now). The same goes for InCopy, Dreamweaver, SpeedGrade, Edge, Fuse, Acrobat, Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw, and the CC Desktop App itself. For all those products, you can still download the latest update patch (Windows / Mac) and apply it on top of the 2015.0 base release with no problem…

Regarding your question on Acrobat, yes, that surprised us as well… At this time, for some reason, Adobe has decided to continue with the same (original) base installer of Acrobat DC and automatically roll in all the additional updates issued to date (of which there are many)… So the version number may say “2015,” but all together, the current downloaded bundle comes up to the 2016 Release of Acrobat DC.

Not sure about the error you mentioned – did you try googling the full text of the message, or searching on the Adobe Forums?

      Hope that helps!

  3. Are we gonna see another major update this year? CC 2016? CC 2017?

I’ve read somewhere: “We are expected to code all features by mid of September 2016 and then be in a dedicated bug fixing mode for about a month. So a tentative lock down is around mid of October.”

Is there any truth to that?

  4. Is Adobe also planning on providing offline updaters? The current version (as of August) for Premiere Pro is 2015.4 (10.4) but the download link is only for the base release of 10.3

    Reply
    • Unfortunately, the version numbering for the video tools has become rather confusing. The latest release of Premiere Pro is actually CC 2015.3.1, with a Premiere-specific build number of 10.4… This current version came out in early August.

You’re right that the current set of direct download links provided by Adobe above includes Premiere Pro CC 2015.3 (10.3) from June, but not the most recent version… We continue to be in touch with them about ensuring all the updates and new releases since June are fully available to customers.

    • On that page you will find recent versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, Bridge, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, and Media Encoder. Not yet present are offline installers for Animate, Muse, Experience Design (XD), Prelude, or Character Animator, which Adobe says they are working to provide.

We will continue to collaborate with them in this effort, but also feel free to contact Adobe Customer Support to express your need for these (via online chat is fastest), and see what they can do for you.

it looks like adobe does not have their act together as much as they should……

  6. Hi, when double click Install, it’s showing Error: The installation cannot continue as the installer file may be damaged. Download the installer file again.
Can you help me out, thanks

    Reply
    • Hi Craige, did you try downloading the installer again – perhaps using a different web browser or another computer?

Also make sure your Internet connection is as strong and reliable as possible, i.e., if you have weak Wi-Fi instead of a wired connection.

If still no luck, then make sure you’re not blocking or filtering anything with your browser(s) – like cookies, downloads, or any sites or URLs – or running utilities like Ghostery, AdBlock, or Disconnect. Or it could be your firewall, antivirus program (esp. Kaspersky), or other third-party security software. Adobe recommends turning those things off temporarily.

Update: Guessing you might be running MacOS Sierra… If so, scroll down a bit to see the solution that Adobe posted.

Thanks for the prompt reply :)

I am trying to download the Photoshop and Illustrator standalone installers.
The message I get when I double click the install icon is:

    Error
The installation cannot continue as the installer file may be damaged. Download the installer file again.

I have downloaded the installers three times already and no luck.
    :(

  8. Hmm. I figured this would be good news as well but it seems even with these new installers I’m left with the original issue: no offline activation option. Even after setting the clock ahead the 7 days to activate unlike before where I would have an offline activation option. Adobe even has a tool for it online that suggests it’s still there, but the software itself just won’t give me the request code I need:

    http://www.adobe.com/go/getactivated

Adobe is becoming more hassle than it’s worth. After getting nowhere with Adobe support, I resorted to a sort of underground patch which I should not have to have done so just to get what I’m paying on this subscription for. The building my workstation is in prohibits internet access so it’s not as if I’m able to use the Cloud features anyway. I’m just highly annoyed that all this effort to get proper offline installers and nothing seems to have truly changed.

    • Hey there Lex, Adobe tells us it is not possible to perform offline activation with individual Creative Cloud subscriptions… They say the page you referenced is only for offline activation of (older) Creative Suite and Elements software titles, which have serial numbers.

Our internal contact advises that if a customer wants fully-offline activation and deployment (with no Internet connection ever), then they would need a Creative Cloud for Enterprise account. See:

How to Do Permanent Offline Activation with Creative Cloud?

We should add that the standard activation checks for all Creative Cloud subscribers are relatively quick and not required frequently… After the initial product installation, annual CC subscribers don’t need to be online again (for revalidation) for over four months.

Finally, we strongly recommend against trying to install an Adobe hack of some kind, as this has its own problems – and is a dangerous idea, because you have no clue what it could do and how badly it can mess up your system (and your personal data/privacy).

  9. To follow up on my previous comment, someone was kind enough to pass me along some information about the new installers and using the proper offline activation method on a workstation that’s permanently offline.

The new CC installer places an XML file in the Common Files directory ( \Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Adobe\PCF\ ) which appears to configure it as a trial until you sign in with an adobe account and validate online.

Deleting the file in the PCF folder allowed the program to give me the request code I need to generate the response code on the offline activation site. It still requires an internet connection on another device since Adobe seems to have ditched their phone activation option but at least I was able to take care of that on my phone during my lunch break.

This has been an infuriating 3 months considering the whole point of this subscription model is to get the latest updates right away, not deal with corporate red tape.

    Reply
    • Lex, we have never heard this before, and google turns up nothing on it either. Are you saying you were able to initially activate a CC application by deleting its XML file in that directory, and then it would generate a Request Code for you… so that you could receive a Response Code from Adobe using that site, and then complete the activation process for that offline computer?

Adobe says that offline activation is not supported for these product SKUs, and it will likely result in an invalid response code.

CC for Individuals or Teams accounts are not supported for offline activation. With an annual plan, the computer can be offline for at least 99 days. With a month-to-month plan, customers need to be online once a month to verify their membership status and renew the activation.

To be exclusively offline, you will need to use Serial number deployment, which is only available to Creative Cloud Enterprise customers.
