    >> There is no way to tell the dates of files uploaded to an http server, from the outside. A ftp server, yes, but not a http server.

Actually, this not correct. The modification timestamps are almost always available regardless of whether this is an HTTP or an FTP download.

I realize this is the site of designers who don’t really understand how the web works, but it’s different for software developers. Here’s how it works. With each web request/response there are request/response headers that contain additional useful information. With pages and also files there is a response header called “Last-Modified” and it usually contains the update timestamp of the file in question (but sometimes it’s not properly configured by the server admin).

Browser built-in download tools typically ignore this header and mark the downloaded file with the download timestamp. You need to use download managers which understand that header and after downloading the file apply the original modification timestamp.

Looks like you’ve always been downloading files with your browser. Perhaps it’s time to stop doing that.

  2. This absolutely sucks, Adobe are a pack of ignoramuses.
Great apps, 2 computers, max download speed of 4.85 mbps, how the hell am I meant to update my MacPro and PowerBook Pro?
The mongrels overlooked nothing, or they just don’t care,
If your computer goes boom, at least we could install the software again from downloaded software. Amazing that Adobe is now as ignorant as the fiends at Apple, Apple pretend to have downloadable updates – NO, totally out of date.
Hey Adobe nutbars, 12 GB’s x 2 is going to fall over multiple times and eat up half of my monthly data – stupid, stupid, extremely stupid redundant thinking!

  3. What’s worse, Adobe must have too much space if they have redundant software for years 2013, 2012, 2011 still available. Just shows you how deep the thought process is – ZERO

  4. it’s a very strange situation… i have installed the CC 2015 version 16.1.2…… i have removed Adobe Creative Cloud and continue to use Adobe Application Manager for checking upgrades (working without a problem).

Now i have downloaded the newest CC 2015.5 – x64 version from here:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/uptodate.html#NotConnected

But help, because with this default installer it’s not possible to choose the destination folder….. the APP is installed on C:\ and i need and i want to install it on D:\, like i have already done with the “old” CC 2015 versions.

How i can do this ?

    • @David, @Olle –

It’s only Photoshop so far, and there are some caveats that Adobe is working on. We are still waiting for cohesiveness in how the ESD packages are handled, including providing standard installers for all the other CC applications.

Another point is that for some reason the CC Desktop App won’t completely recognize when the new install is performed outside of it. So both we and Adobe are investigating and pursuing these issues further.

So you might want to hold off on using that for the moment, until Adobe learns more about why the direct link install isn’t working 100% perfectly (and fixes it)… Also to pull in all the other CC tools.

We are going to reach back out to Adobe today and also ask about being able to choose the installation directory for the standalone downloads.

Please stay tuned to this space where we will keep you updated in the coming days, or however long it takes!

  5. Thank-you Pro Design Tools for helping us get the Adobe app updates back for us as off-line installers. My editing machine has been connected to Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App for 7 hours and I am going to cut short the Illustrator 2015.3 install at just 9%. Not 7 hours doing the Illustrator install, I did several other updates during today’s time. I did note that After Effects 2015.3 update was 4 hours and just up to the 73% install point.

What usually takes me 20 minutes per app, has taken me a week to line up and probably 2 days to do the updates through the CC Desktop App!

Thank-you Pro Design Tools for helping us access your offline installation files in the future for these new 2015.3 updates and beyond.

  6. None of my plug-in filters showed up after the install (NIK, Topaz, MacPhun, etc.)
Any suggestions on how to get them back?

  7. obviously the reason is to A. combat piracy and B. get people IN the adobe ecosystem from start to end. i mean, those are just obvious. the reason given here is just not the story. And people who are smart enough to work illustrator are smart enough to see through THESE layers. How about some effort in the excuses like that in flash pro?

  8. this issue is like the 2015 Dreamweaver issue, where they didn’t even bother to fix their own incomplete installers and forced the public to resolve things on their own. Though the two issues are most likely due to the same thing (fight piracy), let’s hope Adobe shapes up this time, cause this kind of neglect ain’t going to glaze over, by a very large number of offline users.

Even for the Photoshop offline installer it is a nightmare.
You can’t select the installation path, you can’t select the language of a product you want to install.

It just installs everything into a default path with the system language, and that’s all.

And what if I want a different location or want a different language to be installed?
    It’s ridiculous!

    • Thanks David and Alexander for reporting this. Adobe says there is a workaround if you want to set a different (custom) install path and/or installation language… While these aren’t controllable directly with the standalone installer’s user interface, if the language and/or install path are set in the Preferences for the CC Desktop app, then the standalone installers should conform to those settings.

  10. The files in Premiere Pro’s media browser blink and jump around, making it impossible to choose files. I have to import from the Project Panel. Anyone else?

  11. Yeah, I’m one of those who live in a semi-rural area and cannot get decent and reliable internet speeds. I was thrilled when I found the ProDesign Tools website as it solved many of my problems with frequent updates. I could get the update through the faster work computer and then install it at home.

I also help teach students in remote rural areas and/or on boats who have even more limited bandwidth, so for them this situation will be even more of an issue. I really hope the standalone options are continued.

  12. Hi there, mate.

In the article update, it was mentioned that Adobe was working on making direct links available.

Did they every mention a timeline on when this will be released?

    Cheers!

    • Hi everyone,

We have reached back out to Adobe this morning for the latest status on releasing the standalone installers for the new CC version (all apps), and will post back here as soon as we know it!

    • We heard back from the Adobe Product Manager about providing the standalone/offline installers and direct download links for all the apps in the new CC 2015.5 release. He said they are diligently working on the issue through a few escalation points.

He also put in inquiries about choosing an install path and language selection at install time, and will let us know as soon as he find outs more.

Yes, it’s surprising that they didn’t have this all sorted out before last week’s major release, but it’s very good to hear that they are getting their ducks lined up on it now.

      More as we know it!

    • Update: Adobe says there is a workaround if you want to set a different (custom) install path and/or installation language… While these aren’t controllable directly with the standalone installer’s user interface, if the language and/or install path are set in the Preferences for the CC Desktop app, then the standalone installers should conform to those settings.

Still awaiting word on the availability of further offline installers for the new releases in addition to Photoshop.

  13. @Shiranai

    Yup, that’s exactly why.

Adobe’s M.O. for the past several years – especially with Creative Cloud – has been to stamp out piracy. Their real reason for eliminating the direct links is that they know that without them, there will be fewer copies floating around out there on all the torrent sites.

Unfortunately, that same move has an adverse effect on many of their customers. So it becomes a matter of which is more important – stopping those pirates (who, let’s face it, will probably never buy the software anyway), or doing what’s right for the customers.

At the moment, it looks like it’s the customers that come up short.

  14. Users who just want to try the software, but do not have Internet access on their computer and need to download the software on another computer that can not install any software.

  15. This is SO completely WRONG. Direct downloads (was/is/will) always be the best way to install software. YOU as the user have more control.

  16. Wow. CC installer app is so lame. As a MPAA-restricted studio, we CANNOT have internet access to workstations. Every few days we are running around like crazy to grant internet access, re-login to adobe cloud and turn off internet access. Such a waste of time. Apparently their creative teams don’t understand the need for some studios to maintain content confidentiality.
