The new Creative Cloud (CC) is the most sophisticated and powerful toolset Adobe has ever released and recently readers have been asking for solid training materials to learn how to best use these applications…

A while back, we spread the word on over 30 hours of free video tutorials for CS6, and last year we published details on a fantastic new ebook for getting started learning the Adobe CC/CS6 Design Suite (202 pages).  But if you’re looking for a solid primer or helpful beginner’s lessons for Adobe Dreamweaver, that’s harder to find.

Fortunately there are two new books you can download that will teach you the essentials of Adobe Dreamweaver for free, thanks to the generosity of author Professor Thomas Payne… He writes:

“These tutorials are designed to get you through the basics of making web sites in Dreamweaver with the most flexibility and the least amount of work. Think of them as supplying you with a toolbox full of tools to start making good websites.

They are deceptively packed with information, and they are designed to also act as future reference after you are finished completing them. Web pages across the Internet have a lot of similarities, and the information here is designed to cover many of these similarities.”

There are two versions of the free book – just pick which works best for you: one for the 2015 Dreamweaver CC release, and the other for 2012’s Dreamweaver CS6. With the older edition, the tutorial examples and illustrations are from CS6, but should still be able to work with CS5.5 and CS5 as the core panels and buttons covered are functionally similar.

You can download either book in PDF format after signing in with your Adobe ID (which is easy to create if you don’t already have one). The full digital book file for the CC edition is less than 10MB in size, so shouldn’t take long for you to grab:

If you prefer video training instead (or in addition), then check out the free Adobe Learn Series for Dreamweaver CC.

Plus there are other free step-by-step primers as well.

  1. So will perpetual licensed software be sold later than the cloud? I know adobe is trying to move everything to the cloud but it should still value people who want to buy licensed software and provide the same services for us as for their cloud members!

  2. what about those of us, like me, whose internet connection is not fast enough to work on the cloud (Cloud Cuckoo Land. more like) ? And, yes, those places still exist! Try Leticia, Amazonas, Colombia side.

    • Greetings and thanks for your question. You’re absolutely right that not everyone has a super-fast Internet connection, especially in more rural, remote, or less-developed areas of the world. Some folks have slow, limited, or metered connections which make using the web more challenging.

But the first thing we would say is that it’s a frequent misconception that Creative Cloud is truly “cloud-based software” in the way that you’re thinking… It’s actually not true, despite the name. These are not web applications and do not run in a browser. All users of CC tools can download, run, and work locally on their desktop computers, just like with CS6. For more details, please see Myths #2 and #3 here:

The 10 Most Common Myths About Adobe’s Creative Cloud (CC)

In other words, you can be completely disconnected from the Internet for months at a time, and you can still use your CC desktop tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Animate, Premiere, etc, no matter where you are…

Perhaps the better question might be how do you get the Creative Cloud apps installed on your computer if there’s no DVD available or shipped to you? The answer is the CC program installers indeed do need to be downloaded from the web. (But then again, even the CS6 updates did not come on any disc and also needed to be downloaded online.)

What we would suggest is using the Creative Cloud Direct Download Links, which can be helpful in a situation like yours where you might want to download on one system (with a fast/unlimited Internet connection, like at your public Library or an Internet café or at a friend’s or relative’s house) but then install on another machine (like your home computer or laptop).

There you will find the standalone installer(s) for the CC applications you choose… Then you can copy or move those over to another system, via whatever means you wish (USB/flash drive, CD/DVD media, etc).

      Hope that helps!
