  1. Yea, this is REALLY bad news for people who installed, but did not keep the original CC 2015 version installed on a MacBook. I say this because, I am one of those people who did not keep the older version install and updated to 2015.5 this morning only to find the new version is buggy and when I open a RAW file the Camera Raw window button get all dimmed out and if I touch a slider before first touching the Cancel button (quickly and moving the mouse so as not to actually cancel) then the screen goes white. Really annoying. Wish I could go back to 2015 from 2015.5. Adobe should get their crap together.

  2. @Support Manager

And not to mention the problems with proxies, routers and firewalls; which happened to me many times. These updates – not just Adobe products, but also Windows or Java or even Chrome updates – fail; not because of bandwidth limitation, but due to strict security measures. The only option is using offline installers. What Adobe needs to understand here is that they are essentially building some tools to create some media (print, web and video) – nothing more, nothing less. That process by itself may not be the main activity in an organization (unless they are a design / media house or something) and no company can afford to think and implement new policies based on how Adobe update their products! They need tools that will fit well to their existing policies (made based on the general/common scenarios), workflows and requirements.

  3. I really wish the download update links will come in soon and not stop if able to. As Students or Full time staff, All of us need the updates to keep up with the latest and not get left behind if not will be very disappointing and difficult for all of us.

  4. I essentially cannot get the upgrades to work. I’m an IT professional, do intra-team tech support, and have 25 years experience managing adobe products.

I can’t express how terrible “upgrading” to CC has been for our organization. I have to do the tech support for everyone and there is not a single person I deal with who doesn’t have problems with CC. One of our main offices has satellite internet and the CC Desktop updater fails 99% of the time, after downloading 200-500MB of data. Then gives a useless error message.

Every one of the CC products is slower than CS6 and their licensing model makes them seem like jealous and customer hating. We’re paying for software that will stop working as soon as the payment stops and yet the entire experience of using the service is a downgrade.

Eight months in to “upgrading” our team to CC and I’m just about to delete all this crap and go back to CS6 until that all stops working, in hopes that maybe Adobe can fire everyone involved in this disaster and get some new product managers who do not hate their paying customers.

  5. Unbelievable. Thanks ProDesign for explaining this. I was wondering why Muse CC 2015.2 did not have a dmg file like it used to. It just had a bunch of files and no installer whatsoever. Any clue on how to install this messy package? Thanks

    • No, unfortunately the new approach is non-standard and, at present, it’s not possible to install the latest versions of the tools without using or relying on the CC Desktop App… There is no single fully-contained .DMG or .EXE or .ZIP file as there was for all releases before, and no setup file either.

  6. 1 – I have a very slow and unreliable internet connection and Adobe CC is very large to download.
2 – I normally keep my system off line because of too many viruses in my community and network.
3 – A failure occurred after I installed the online Update, and I cannot reload it again.

Please back the offline installers for us!

    Regards
    Ramy

  7. I had some previous complaints about problems uploading. Today, 8 out of 9 updates went well and very quickly, final one went OK on re-try. No idea why it worked today and not yesterday, or maybe I got unlucky then lucky.

  8. Creative Cloud works about 30% of the time for me. In the past year alone, I’ve had to use the direct download links on no fewer than 4 separate occasions to get the update. There’s no excuse for Adobe not to fix the update problems permanently. It’s ridiculous how frequently the updates *don’t* work. My bitterness against Adobe grows exponentially every single time I go through the frustration of seeing a useless update error message plus the ensuing time I have to spend manually cleaning up their apps, then finding and downloading and installing the updates.

  9. Adobe seems to like to abuse their users, why else would they remove their user-working product while installing a new product version that has not been tested by their group.

Ridiculous as it is, Adobe keeps doing that. One needs to deviate from the Adobe default install path to stay in business.

Adobe keeps making money for they have captive customers, their workflow processes use adobe software that have no good alternative. So Adobe gets away with being Ridiculous

  10. Never second guess a MONOPOLY.
They know what is best for you and less is more.
Do you want the absolute best Adobe has to offer (or anything else) or not?
Put your head in the Cloud.
    And keep it there!

  11. Not even considering the widespread technical problems, isn’t this awfully big brother-ish?

This issue doesn’t affect me directly, as I’m still using CS6. Since I own it outright, and it serves my needs as a semi-retired freelancer, I did the math and chose not to make Adobe management richer by paying a subscription fee in order to do my work. Plus, I couldn’t afford the CC method.

This is just another slap in the face to loyal users who started with Aldus PageMaker and chose to stay with Adobe InDesign because it blew QuarkXPress out of the water. PagePlus, PhotoPlus, DrawPlus, etc., from Serif in England are looking better all the time…

  12. It just occurred to me that this new move could also possibly be motivated by anti-piracy purposes. The lack of a unified, standalone installation package would probably make it more difficult to reverse engineer or crack.

Although to my way of thinking, the cost of a Creative Cloud subscription is low enough that that it most likely drastically reduced the amount of piracy that was going on among working professionals in the Creative Suite days. If this new distribution system is in any way an anti-piracy measure it would be a tragedy, because (like most draconian anti-piracy measures) it punishes legitimate users, and most likely won’t deter skilled software crackers.

  13. I’ve subscribed to CC since the very beginning but this is a real hardship for me.

I have never been able to rely on the CC Desktop Manager to successfully get the apps downloaded and installed on my machines.

Even today, the same difficulties. Thank God for Prodesigntools, which has always helped in the past.

But now I cannot move forward if this is the way that Adobe chooses to move forward.

  14. I agree. The Adobe CC app is not reliable and I often have to try multiple times to get an update to take complete.

Please make your apps more friendly on slow internet connections. And a way to download at a fast location and then install where internet is slow (or basically non-existent) is REQUIRED!

  15. This is just Marketing BS

Just tried this out and it is BS. The Adobe CC Desktop app downloads a zip file, in my case AdobePhotoshop17-Core_x64.zip to a temp folder (type %temp% and look in latest created folders) – so it is not some multiple small files or other crap, just plain old .zip. Of course, there is no .exe to run setup locally… but based on the archive structure, just simple extract would work for the program. Of course, the file gets deleted after setup and you would need to make shortcuts and associate files manually.

This new technology is nothing and that is a fact.

  16. My issue with the lack of direct download links is that I have two machines, and I shouldn’t have to run through the download process twice. It’s a waste of my time and my bandwidth. This method also prevents me from having an easy backup of the installer and update files, and potentially an easier rollback path in case of bugs.

It’s also distracting (yes, I may have ADHD), because instead of ignoring the CC app while it does its thing, my brain will force me to watch it every few minutes to make sure it’s working.

And it just makes me hate Adobe even more. There are a lot of capable alternatives to most of what I use (many of which have free/very cheap versions for students like me), so this is yet another thing making me consider leaving the Cloud for good.

I can’t wait to “blow” the cloud away from my world.

  17. I never really understood the deal with direct downloads until I read many of the comments. Has Adobe said they won’t provide them or is it something they haven’t done yet? Seems like they may be trying to stop people who use cracks at the detriment of paid subscribers.

    • Welcome back James, good to see you again! We’ve already emailed several different internal Adobe contacts about this issue, but haven’t heard yet if this issue will be properly addressed… We sincerely hope they come up with a solution, but it’s very unclear what will happen. It could go either way.

In the meantime, many folks cannot get the new CC updates because of what’s happened with the Desktop app, and they want to know why. But it’s not just this site, it’s all over the Adobe Forums as well!

So real customers expressing their important feedback can only help.

  18. Please fix your page so that when a user Tabs from the comment “Name” field, he or she gets sent to the “E-Mail” field. Right now, the cursor goes somewhere into the ether after I enter my name and hit the Tab key.
