  1. I often need to install Adobe CC applications on a computer without Internet connection. I can’t upgrade to the latest version if there’s no offline installer available. And that’s even worse, since we’re paying for these updates monthly.

  2. I’ve never had any luck making the CC app work smoothly, takes multiple attempts with lags and sometimes complete crashes. But if I direct download the program and install from my own hard drive – NO issues at all.

This is going to stop me completely from upgrading. Not cool. If this is a response to bootleg software, then someone needs to realize that if you can think of a way to make a lock secure, then someone is going to take that as a challange and find a way to break it NO MATTER WHAT.

  3. Piracy issues maybe?

Anyway – omitting direct download links is such a major PITA for so many users for a plethora of reasons that I predict a epic shitstorm that will eventually force Adobe to go back to the good old way of doing things. At least as a fallback option. Recent upgrades and troubled releases (remember the Lightroom catastrophe a few months back) suggests that Adobe increasingly is out of touch with their customers.

  4. It is very bad, because there is no upgrade for the 32Bit Version of Photoshop CC 2015.5.
Now not all of my plugins work. I work with Kodak Airbrush plugin and Kodak hasn’t updated the plugin to 64bit.

So i have no chance to work with the plugin. Or, I won’t be able to use the new version :-(

    • Yes, thank you Jon, this is very good news. We were contacted earlier this evening by an Adobe Product Manager who says the company is aware of the situation and hoping to find a solution to restore direct download links and standalone installers for all tools in the new release! So we’re happy to report they are listening to customers and hearing your feedback.

It looks like there is some progress made with Photoshop, but we are still waiting for cohesiveness in how the ESD packages are handled, including providing standard installers for all the other CC applications. Another point is that for some reason the CC Desktop App won’t completely recognize when the new install is performed outside of it. So both we and Adobe are investigating and pursuing these issues further.

So you might want to hold off on using that for the moment, until Adobe learns more about why the direct link install isn’t working 100% perfectly (and fixes it)… Also to pull in all the other CC tools.

Please stay tuned to this space where we will keep you updated in the coming days, or however long it takes!

    • No, only Photoshop so far, and there are some caveats that Adobe is working on. But this is very encouraging and a positive start to hopefully a forthcoming complete solution!

  5. Just used the direct download for InDesign 11.3 this morning. I’d have been in real trouble if I couldn’t have done that. Direct downloads and conventional installers are an extremely important insurance/safety fallback.

    • Thanks Peter, you’re right – and having direct download links is especially imperative for InDesign where file formats matter, and you want or need to be able to dial up the exact same version as your client, colleague, collaborator, or coworker at any time!

  6. Hi there. I have the stand alone version of LR6 and am forced to use their updater which downloads and installs when new updates appear. Is there possibly a direct download link for new updates? If my pc should crash I will have to reload LR which isn’t a problem as I have the disk, however all updates will be lost. What’s also worrying is that at some stage in the future they won’t be supporting LR6 any more and then there will be no way to access the updates if I should need them. I would like to have backups on hand should the need arise. Thanks.

  7. It means that the CC model with direct download links has not been as good at preventing piracy as Adobe hoped. This is another attempt to keep others from profiting from their intellectual property. Whether or not it backfires on Adobe remains to be seen. The CC model appears turns everybody into beta testers, much like Windows 10 does.

I’m thankful that the non-CC Adobe products do everything I need, and that direct download links are still available. It’s just another reason why I most likely will never participate in the subscription model. My needs are probably simpler than many here. Unlike a few years ago, 80-90% of what I do with Adobe can be done with free or lower cost software.. I’m actively watching the competition, testing as it comes out, looking to eventually replace my Adobe products.

  8. I’ve been toying with acquiring InDesign, not because I like it (I’ll have to learn it to know) but because a certain publisher uses it, and the authors for whom I edit and I have had problems when we submit in Word (as required by the publisher), they convert to InDesign, and it messes up the formatting, which means more cost to my authors while they and I go back and re-edit to clean up the conversion problems.

Looks as though I will rethink this idea if I can’t get a download file (or series of files) that I can back up and install off line. Contrary to what most software developers seem to think today, not everyone wants to be connected to the internet 24/7/365! For one thing, it can get costly when the ISP sets data limits.

Most of the other reasons given in the article above are equally valid. I prefer to work off line whenever possible, and sometimes I am on a computer that simply is not connected to the internet — for reasons given above. Also, I am simply NOT impressed with the whole “cloud” idea. I want to keep my data under my own thumb, not floating around somewhere in cyberspace.

Looks as though I’ll have to rethink whether I want anything by Adobe ever again. I am a strong advocate of not upgrading just because the publisher wrote an upgrade. If what I have works, I’ll upgrade when need arises — not just to pay more money to the publisher. I’m on a fixed general income and not anxious to fix the SW publishers’ bottom lines.

It seems that as the quantity and quality of open source and free software grows, older established companies are seeking ways to control their products in ways that make use of the software difficult, costly, and challenging. This is too bad. Adobe (and similar companies) should concentrate on offering the very best and most reliable product so that we want the products for that quality and innovation instead of trying to lock people into their products by means such as this.

  9. Every few months, Adobe gives me new reasons to hate them. If only Corel was as feature rich, had a diverse product range that all integrated, maybe Adobe would finally have some REAL competition. F*** you Adobe, AGAIN.

  10. I just spent 4 hours on the phone with Adobe tech support who was trying to assist me in installing CC application manager (CC desktop app) and downloading Lightroom and InDesign without success. The rest of the apps downloaded fine, but Lightroom was stuck at 35% and InDesign at 42%. The Adobe tech was using Connection to uninstall, run CC Cleaner, installing and uninstalling DMGs of Lr and CC, DLing via Firefox and Safari and even set up an alternate admin account. All to no avail. Four hours. The tech confirmed that this has been a widespread problem.

So I think that an alternate DL option is needed, as well as a quick fix for the CC App. It’s ironic that the many applications Adobe makes that are so sophisticated operate almost flawlessly, yet this utility app has issues!

  11. While I note that while my CC manager includes the ability to install previous versions of the main apps, these have been uninstalled during the upgrade process. So if I want to continue to use the previous version to complete a project, I have to re-install it. Imagine the outcry if a doctor or dentist had new tools automatically installed overnight and had his old ones hidden away somewhere. He would have to perform surgery with unfamiliar tools or take time to search for and check the condition of his old tools. That is what this upgrade feels like for creative practitioners. Please stop doing automatic uninstalls, Adobe!

    • Hey Michael, you’re right in that the things changed about a year ago where older CC versions are now automatically uninstalled when newer ones are installed.

The good news is that you can change this at the time of installation when using the CC Desktop App, by unchecking this box.

If you’re using the direct download links instead, then any previous version is always left untouched – and can be kept/used on the same machine or uninstalled.

  12. As an Adobe customer since 1988, I am appalled by their stupidity. Come on, what new hotshot product manager decided to make it HARDER for loyal, monthly paying customers to download their software?

Plus, if not for ProDesignTools, I wouldn’t even know. No Adobe emails. I’m not seeing any update info anywhere on my iMac. Thanks Adobe. Pls get yr head outta the clouds and realize WE pay your bills. We actually PAY for your software. Sheesh.

Thanks ProDesignTools for being here for US!

    • You bet Jenny, it’s the least we can do! It’s possible that Adobe wasn’t fully aware of just how many people truly need and rely on having these resources every day.

It’s a big company, and sometimes things fall through the cracks. But when it’s something this big and this important, then we had to step up and speak up and make it known.

  13. @Christine Hummel
I used (very successfully) Serif products for quite a while some time ago. Still on CS 6 and determined to find an alternative to Adobe, thank you for the reminder. I suspect I will find that -their- products have been getting steadily better and better.

  14. I understand the Adobe side, but Adobe needs to understand the client side. In the place i work, we have Macs and PCs, and this Creative Cloud App is a piece of crap on PC. Sorry, but this true. Several times having the update installer available gives me more time to work instead of looking at a progress bar. And if you need to uninstall the Creative Cloud App in PC, you need to uninstall first all your Adobe CC Apps, every single one … so Adobe, bring back the update installers.

I’m video editor and i can live without Adobe easy, i still can use AVID (PC/MAC), but my workflow will be more slow and inefficient :'(.

  15. There are SO MANY problems regarding Adobe CC that I am unsure they will keep its leadership in graphic design apps within the next three-to-five years. Photoshop and Illustrator have decent competitors available for a fraction of its price. Of course, some high-end features are still exclusive, but the gap is closing. Acrobat also has a number of alternatives. The same to Premiere and After Effects, especially for Mac. InDesign, Dreamweaver and Muse are the only apps with a large distance from competitors, but they also face competition – and Quark is evolving quickly again. Alas, the lack of investment on InDesign is becoming a shame, with the application being the major one with fewer improvements in recent years, besides a permanent difficulty to handle bugs and adjust the UI.

  16. I paid for a year membership for the adobe cc photography plan in may this year and I have been trying to download and install it with no luck even with help of adobe support 3 different times and they can’ t get set up due to errors. I have looked online for help and have tried those ways too, but no luck.

Come on Adobe get your head out of your behind and get this fixed. I paid for your product and you didn’t have a problem taking my money, how about returning the favor in kind.
