    • Yes, thank you Dominik, this is very good news. We were contacted yesterday evening by an Adobe Product Manager who says the company is aware of the situation and hoping to find a solution to restore direct download links and standalone installers for all tools in the new release! So we’re happy to report they are listening to customers and hearing your feedback.

It looks like there is some progress made with Photoshop, but we are still waiting for cohesiveness in how the ESD packages are handled, including providing standard installers for all the other CC applications. Another point is that for some reason the CC Desktop App won’t completely recognize when the new install is performed outside of it. So both we and Adobe are investigating and pursuing these issues further.

So you might want to hold off on using that for the moment, until Adobe learns more about why the direct link install isn’t working 100% perfectly (and fixes it)… Also to pull in all the other CC tools.

Please stay tuned to this space where we will keep you updated in the coming days, or however long it takes!

  1. Direct downloads allow me to completely organize and control my software : choice of location (disk / folders), split of old and current versions in different directories.

After it’s MY Personal Computer and I want to manage it as I like ;-)

  2. Damn Adobe!! i need direct installers, my internet is not fast enough to download 12Gbs of software on multiple computers. One Download and i can run them on multiple machines = Simple. Use creative cloud app downloading and getting errors = Annoying .

please bring back Direct Downloads as i don’t want to switch to another video editing package like Final Cut Pro X

    • Yes, only Photoshop so far, and there are some caveats that Adobe is working on. But this is very encouraging and a positive start to hopefully a forthcoming complete solution!

  3. Hi there

Busy downloading the LR updates via the direct links (thank you!) as I type. One silly question – would the latest update include the previous ones or should worst come to worst and I have reinstall, would I then need to reinstall each update?

    Thanks
    Karen

  4. The reasons Adobe offers here are just a pile of BS. The only real reason Adobe does this, is to make piracy harder. They just don’t want to admit it, because its sounds negative.

But guess what? There are people that are on computers with no internet connection at all (especially in companies where Adobe software is used). For admins this is a pain in the A. So it’s necessary to have these direct downloads.

So if you want to keep your installer for the DAUs (dumbest assumable users) then fine. But be sure to offer an alternative for the more experienced ones.

  5. Thanks ProDesign Tools, at least I was able to update my Creative Cloud Desktop by following your instructions. I tried no less than four times to update with the app itself and each attempt failed with Error Code: 201. This has been the case for as long as I can remember. Adobe seems to have no clue on what a pain it is to update their software is thru the cloud. I have made it a habit to only come to ProDesign Tools when I need to update. I was able to update my laptop from a location other than home but have had nothing but trouble at home using CC Desktop. I see where Adobe said they would look at restoring direct download links (as they need to)!!! I used to download the standalone Adobe CC installers & updates at a location other than home, where I could use my high-speed internet connection to quickly download them to my laptop for installation on that machine and also at home.

I am on a satellite Internet connection at home as this is my only option. As anyone who uses satellite knows, this is not unlimited and capped at only a small number of gigabytes per month depending on your plan. I cannot afford to waste bandwidth on failed downloads thru Adobe’s garbage Creative Cloud Desktop.

(As stated above already) Adobe doesn’t understand the importance of making standalone installers available for people in situations like myself. It shows a troubling cluelessness as to the real-world needs of its professional customers.

Hoping they will listen and thanks for all that you do!

  6. It seems someone at Adobe found this issue important enough to act quickly. There is now a direct download for at least Photoshop in all its versions ie Windows/Mac 32/64bit. I don’t know if this is the case with everything else in Creative Cloud as the link was given to me by someone on the Photoshop forum at Adobe just an hour ago. https://forums.adobe.com/message/8830723

Hopefully the download will appear on ProdesignTools for everyone shortly.
    The download is listed here:

I downloaded Photoshop from that link but it won’t install. I get a code 42 error which isn’t even listed on Adobe’s website as to cause or how to get around it. Nice…

  8. I subscribed to the CC Cloud last year, for one year. I used it one month and removed it. The Cloud App screwed with everything on my pc! I went back to CS6.
It seems to me that Adobe is trying to take FULL control over every aspect of the use of their product – product, stock, apps, etc. Yay for them. Just remember Adobe, it is the paying customer that feeds your mouths!

  9. I don’t only like the direct downloads page, but it’s the only way I can reliably download updates from within our heavy corporate firewall. Adobe should know that in today’s world, large corporations have these firewalls so to suggest to IT to take it down while you do your downloads would be so ludicrous I wouldn’t even attempt asking. I was able to request for a special backdoor once but it was so slow the installer kept tapping out. It’s really only the direct download page that affords me the convenience of doing the installs one at a time as bandwidth is available. Besides, we’re on an Enterprise license so we can’t use the CC Download App.

  10. Our school-wide deployment of Creative Cloud does not include the CC Desktop application; the direct download links have been a necessary godsend when dealing with less up-to-date users with older projects in Premiere.

We have a local update server that is not particularly ‘robust’, and Adobe’s own update servers sometimes seem overwhelmed – being able to download and save recent CC version installers and updates in order to be ready to resolve challenges without having to rely on network and servers is crucial.

It does work at least on Windows 7. I think I saw a thread on the Adobe forum with that error. There was not an answer but it sounded to me to be a permissions issue. The installer initially creates an Adobe temporary folder, expands everything and then creates and copies to the normal Photoshop folder, so if the permissions are not correct the installer cannot create that folder. Make sure you are using Admin privileges.

  12. Amongst other more design oriented things I am developing ExtendScript (JavaScript) scripts for automating InDesign for various customers with various version numbers of InDesign installed.

Often than not there are changes in the document object model (DOM) from version to version, even from dot version to dot version. Sometimes subtle changes, sometimes huge changes where I have to do workarounds: for bugs that sneaked in or bugs that are fixed or new behaviors of existing features. Or limits on value ranges for object properties that are lifted or kept tighter.

With the help of ProDesignTool’s website for downloading .0 versions and subsequent .1 , .2 etc. versions I am able to create installs of InDesign that totally fit my customer’s installs. And that is needed for developing and testing scripts successfully. For debugging as well. Without DMG installers for the Mac and EXE installers on the PC this would be hard to achieve in a timely manner.

  13. Our Avid editing stations are firewalled off not only from the internet, but also from the rest of our network. The inability to obtain “sneaker-net” friendly installation options is crippling to us. We will be unable to advance to the current release until this issue is corrected.

  14. I’ve been trying to download all these updates since 9am this morning. This creative could download mechanism is pure crap! All day long server not responding. I can’t wait until someone comes along and comes up with BETTER and CHEAPER software for the windows platform

  15. Anyone noticed that Photoshop’s install files in archive are dated 3rd of june? Seems Adobe DOES have the installers for their new product, it is just being that they choose to be difficult to release them.

    • We have not seen that Johnny. There is no way to tell the dates of files uploaded to an http server, from the outside. A ftp server, yes, but not a http server.

The Adobe Product Manager said he had the initial Photoshop files uploaded to the server yesterday, and the standalone installer packages for the other applications are still being worked on.

  16. The direct download links have always been useful if one needs to install on different workstations or MacBooks for onset solutions. Adobe’s approach to only let their download manager manage all downloads is, in my opinion absolutely ludicrous. What if u find yourself in a remote location with slow or no internet access and need to do some offline edits or transcodes onset.

They need to give us the direct download links so we can take the dmg installers anywhere, anytime.

No need to give a full detailed list of reasons, there is just one that matters: THIS SUCKS BIG TIME.
