Hi There,
I am trying to install the trial of after effects CS4, I have downloaded the software from your website when I open the .exe file there is an error message that states something along the lines of ‘File archive parts missing, please download full file.’ Then when trying to open the .7z file a black box opens and then says program too big for memory? Is this the case? Please advise?
Hi Kevin, for that error message, please see this earlier comment and response – thanks!
Hi,
I’m trying to download either Photoshop CS4 or CS4 Design Standard. But if I click on the links in the tables, I get linked to the Adobe site and need to click on a link to ‘start the download again’. If I then click on that link, I get redirected to the Adobe site, where I can download (trials) of CS5. But I would like to have CS4. :( Do you know what I can do?
FYI: I’m registered at Adobe, and logged on. The same happens when I save the link on the Mac. If I then click on this file (.dmg) I get forwarded to the Adobe site, where I can click on a link to download CS5.
Thank you for your reply.
Greetings,
Cocoon
Welcome Cocoon, for that issue please see Kate’s earlier comments, the things she tried, and the series of replies which follow – hopefully that will help.
Thanks for this wonderful site!
I can’t run 64-bit and I crashed my holding drive with cs4 on it, and your site saved my life!
Thanks a million!
You’re very welcome Frank – and thank you for the extraordinarily kind words, which help make it all worthwhile!
Best of luck restoring your system and please stop back anytime.
@Cocoon
Hi cocoon,
I got exactly to where you were. But then, once you start download and cancel, come back to this page and simply click again on CS4 from the list above and voila! I’m currently downloading it right now. Why adobe is not making it easier for the design community? After all, we all are their bread and butter and more.
Good luck
Hi, every time i try to download adobe after effects, I get the message from adobe “Resume your download” It pretty much tells me i need to have an account, but at the top of the screen it shows me as logged in to adobe. if i choose the option to resume my download, it takes me to the the Adobe Downloads page:
Hellp PLEEASE!
Greetings Robert, please see the comments and responses just above yours on this page – thanks.
Just to help anyone out who had trouble with the “Resume Downloads” page: I had the same problem for awhile and I kept getting that page every time I wanted to download something. I cleared my adobe.com cookies. And then went back to the original directions at the top. Make sure you first try to download Photoshop CS5, so that the trial cookies are set. Close out of the Photoshop CS5 download screen once it starts. And then go back to try and download one of the these links. That was my problem and this fixed it. Hopefully this is help to some people.
Congratulations Chris – you are the 400th comment on this popular page!
And thank you for your input, you are absolutely right… It’s important to follow the six-step instructions above as closely as possible. Thanks for putting it so well to describe the procedure enabling the downloads from Adobe.
I am looking at a comment from December (from Kate) and they said to start downloading CS5 and then click on the link here and what not. And i did that, and i was able to get the .exe files but when i click on it to open it and actually install Prod. Premium on my computer, it will extract the files then leave a “resume download” shortcut on my desktop.
When i click on this shortcut it takes me to adobe’s site and tries to download CS5 again. What am i doing wrong?
Hello Catrina, after you download both of the files (.exe and .7z) for the product trial, you run the .exe which will extract everything contained in the other file. (For a Mac it’s just one file, the .dmg which you double-click.)
First thing you’ll be asked is where you want to extract these installation files to…
You’ll see that by default, it’s to a folder named “Adobe CS4” on your desktop – so look there for this folder.
Find Setup.exe within that folder, double-click it, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
After the installation is complete, you can remove that (temporary) folder, and the downloaded files if you like.
Hope this helps!
The files are asking what program I want to use to open each file. I haven’t any setup.exe file. Can you explain how to download these files. seeing other people’s questions and answers is not helping me.
Hi Tina, if you don’t have an .exe file and are being asked what program you want to open it with, then it means your file has no extension.
If your file has lost its extension, you are probably using Internet Explorer, which has a tendency to drop the extensions… (There is a paragraph about this in the article above, advising to use a different browser for the downloads, if possible.)
In any event, if you see any downloaded file(s) with no extension (from either File 1 or File 3 above), just rename it/them with a “.exe” at the end, and try again – thanks.
Is Illustrator CS5 File 1 for Windows the .exe file?? I followed all the instructions with login into Adobe etc, and have both the exe and the 7z file in the same folder……but as soon as I try to open File 1, windows asks what program I want to use to open it.
Yes Enzo, exactly – please see the prior comment and response, just above yours.
I got everything extracted to a folder on my desktop. No problem. But when I double click Setup.exe nothing happens. Got any ideas?
Hey there John, you sound just like Luke above… Please see his comments and our responses from two weeks ago – thanks!
I am trying to download adobe after effects CS4 but when I click on the link, it leads me to this page “Resume your Adobe download”, where I have to sign in. After I sign in and try the link again, it still sends me to the same page. Is there something I did wrong?
Welcome lark, for that situation please see Kate’s earlier comments, the things she tried, and the series of replies which follow – hopefully that will get you past that.
hello i am wanting the trial version but i need to know could some one let me know if this site is safe.
Hi c2 – yes, absolutely all the files here are safe, authentic, genuine, and original – and the way you know is that everything is downloaded direct from Adobe’s servers… We here at ProDesignTools are actually affiliated with Adobe Systems itself, for over four years now.
Please, please avoid Adobe torrents, cracks, hacks, keygens, and other untrusted downloads – besides being illegal they are so often rife with malware and backdoors these days, and are likely to harm you, your computer, and your sensitive data.
@ProDesignTools
thank you for this information, and torrenting is wrong and cheats the developers and company! thanks
i have just downloaded the cs3 premiere pro trial, i have extracted the files and the setup has started but now it is asking for me to insert adobe premiere pro in c:\ to continue with the installation
Greetings lauren, if you get an “insert disk” type of message when installing Creative Suite, see if this forum discussion helps address that – thanks!
Can i please just have step-by-step instructions on how to download adobe after effects cs4?
I’ve been reading comments and i cant find my answer,
I downloaded both links but i need help from there
THANKS A LOT!
Sure Spencer – there are some instructions for beginning the installation process linked in step 6 of the instructions in the article…
If you need something more explicit than that, please see the comment and response from Catrina just above.
Hi there! I’m trying so hard to find a way to buy After Effects CS4, this worked perfectly for finding the trial versions but I have no idea how to actually buy the serial keys… is this not possible anymore?
Hello Nick, thanks for your question… You’re not alone. It’s difficult to find Adobe CS4 still for sale these days, and there are too many unsafe counterfeits – so here is our best recommendation:
Buy Adobe After Effects CS4, Get CS5 Free
That way, you get CS4 for now, plus CS5 for the future – with both authentic and safe…
Does that help?
Hi and very useful resource so far.
Unfortunately the ‘File 2’ link for CS4 Master Collection (Windows) appears to be broken
Thanks Debbie, but we just checked it and it works & downloads fine here… (ADBESTAMCS4_LS1.7z which is 5.4 GB) Are you following all the instructions carefully, and able to download the other trial files?
Or it may just be the large file size could be causing you difficulty… if so, try a different browser, computer, and/or Internet connection.
I have done everything from cleaning out my browser history to my cookies. Nothing is working when I try to download it directs me to the adobe website. I have looked at other comments and nothing works.. Pls Pls help
Hi Tawain, sorry you’re having difficulties… Please try a different browser, or computer, or internet connection, or Adobe login.
If you’ve read other people’s comments, then you know that it’s a delicate system (don’t ask us why), but hundreds of people do successfully download the CS4 & CS3 trials every day, and usually a bit of time and fiddling will eventually achieve success.
hi, excellent site, I’ve followed the instructions above to load CS4 that was fine. When I tried to install it I got an error saying
“Initializing: Setup Error: Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe Customer Support for assistance. Quit”
I searched for a fix and came upon this page
I did the steps there but kept still getting this same error again and again.
So instead I took the CS3 after effects trial, that one produced a different error saying Component Not Installed after a lengthy install process.
I’ve restarted my machine and retried countless times now. I’ve even uninstalled quicktime in case that was causing an issue. I phoned Adobe Support, they were worse than useless (the guy actually refused to help me as they don’t support CS4 or CS3 any more).
If anyone could help I’d be so grateful, I’ve spent now almost seven hours trying to install AfterEffects :[
Hey there Farhan, thank you for your kind words. Actually that’s true that Adobe no longer supports the CS4 and CS3 trials, which is probably why we get so many comments and questions here. They have a long-standing policy of selling the latest full versions only, which does have rare exceptions in the case of still offering After Effects CS4 and Premiere Pro CS4 now, because some folks are still on 32-bit computers and can’t run 64-bit software.
So if you want to buy After Effects CS4 due to system limitations, that really is your best bet.
Regarding your trial install problem, are you running the files with Admin rights? (Right click on the .exe file in the downloaded folder and choose “Run as administrator”)
Are the downloaded files located on the same disk where you want to install the software to? (e.g., the C: drive, etc – sometimes this makes a difference)
Otherwise, have you tried the different suggestions in this forum post… or this one… or this one?
Hope something there helps!
@Cocoon
Hey!
HERE IS THE FIX:
1) Go to the trials on ADOBE, for CS5, and pick any…like PHOTOSHOP CS5 for EXAMPLE
2) A POP-UP TO DOWNLOAD THE AKAMI? DOWNLOAD MANAGER WILL APPEAR
***THIS IS THE FIX***
3) DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THIS!
4) AS SOON AS IT (THAT DL MANAGER) FINISHES INSTALLING, NOW (ON THE WEB PAGE ITSELF)
CLICK PAUSE! ON THE INITIAL CS5 DOWNLOAD YOU INITIATED
5) CLOSE OUT THAT TEST DOWNLOAD THAT IS PAUSED,
AS YOU NOW HAVE THE MANAGER INSTALLED FROM ADOBE
6) RETRY YOUR TRIAL DOWNLOAD FROM THIS REAL PAGE HERE THAT YOU WANTED
7) IT WILL NOW WORK!
Thanks Cman, appreciate the comments! Another good guide to follow for anybody having download problems.
@ProDesignTools
thanks for the replies. I did figure out what the problem was/is. Apparently for some reason the download seems not to work properly from Google Chrome. I reran the steps from IE and it worked. The first file came without a .exe extension so I hit F2 to rename and added a .exe on the first file. Double clicked it, it did exactly the same thing as the chrome version did, but actually completed the install.
I wish I knew this at the start of the day, spent almost seven hours trying to resolve it. I actually gave up and downloaded a trial version of Nuke, it was when that crashed that I phoned up their technical help (excellent service – abobe take note) and the advisor did say to try to download it from IE and see if it works.
Very odd but relieved to have it working now. Thanks to everyone who fed-back on my question.
Hello again Farhan, glad to hear you got it going and thank you for following up here. We’re surprised to hear that it might have had anything to do with Chrome… Whenever folks comment here with download problems, we usually suggest trying a different browser (or computer) as a matter of course, but since you had already completed all your downloads, that part seemed done and OK.
Chrome (and Firefox) are really the better and more reliable browers – and generally we advise against using IE because of the exact problem you discovered where it drops the file extensions, and then you have to rename the .exe files to add them back…
We just retested all of the After Effects CS4 trial downloads above from Adobe’s servers just now using Chrome (version 8), and they all check out 100%. So since it happened to you with other (non-Adobe) software you tried to download onto your computer, you might also consider that your install of Chrome has a bug or problem – so first check for any updates (see the “About” menu item), and/or redownload and reinstall the browser just to be safe.
One final note – if anybody wants to verify they have an accurate and complete download, you can cross-check against the official MD5 checksum values for both After Effects CS4 and Premiere Pro CS4. If the numbers match, then you know your files are good.
I was looking for a trial of After Effects CS3, which did not seem to exist anywhere any more. I followed your instructions and I now have my trial. I just wanted to say thank you for your help and general awesomeness.
Thank you so much Stephanie – you’re very gracious, and we’re glad to help out!
Please feel free to spread the word for others that may need harder-to-find older versions of the software, whether because they don’t have their disks any longer, or can’t run the latest Adobe trials yet because of system limitations (32-bit vs. 64-bit), and so on. You’d be amazed at how many people still need to run the previous releases of After Effects, just like you.
Thanks again!
I just downloaded product file one and two, but they won’t open – what am i supposed to do? I’m sort of a newbie with this kind of stuff, so help would be greatly appreciated
I think it because the first file does not appear to be an exe file – it says that the type of file is just ‘file’
Yes, that’s correct Cax – you are probably using IE (Internet Explorer), which as mentioned in the article has a tendency to drop the extensions from the downloaded files…
Just rename the affected file(s) by adding back an “.exe” at the end – and then you should be able to run it. Thanks.
Thanks but now it says that the archive part of the installer is missing and they need to be in the same folder. But i already have downloaded the two parts and they are in the same folder?
Okay Cax, for that error message, please see this earlier comment and response – thanks!
