[IMPORTANT – Adobe is discontinuing public direct download links for older software. Instead, you can now download Elements installers here through their website. For more details and complete information, see our new explainer post here. Note that Adobe sells only the latest release of Elements.]
The new version 2021 of Adobe’s “Elements” line is shipping – and since recent Elements releases have been named by calendar year instead of a separate version number, this edition would be the equivalent of version 19 in the previous numbering system.
And continuing our tradition of publishing the direct download links for major Adobe products such as Creative Cloud and Acrobat DC, below you’ll find the direct links from Adobe’s servers for the free trials and full offline installers for the new releases of Photoshop Elements 2021 and Premiere Elements 2021, for both Windows and macOS.

These links go to the authentic and secure files residing on Adobe’s servers, are guaranteed genuine, safe, legal, and will not change. They are especially useful for downloading Adobe’s free trials via other means – often due to difficulties with using the Adobe Download Assistant or Akamai Download Manager… With the links provided below, you can use your own browser’s download capability (without the Akamai DLM), or use another download manager of your choice.
In order to properly run Photoshop & Premiere Elements 2021, your computer must meet Adobe’s minimum system requirements for the products. See below for what’s new and different in this release.

- Install with an account that has administrative privileges (not a Limited User Account if you are using Windows).
- For ease of installation, quit any open programs, including virus protection software, prior to installing Elements 2021.
- If you run into any difficulties, see the Elements 2021 Installation Troubleshooting page.
What’s New in Elements 2021 – What Features Have Been Added?
This is usually the first thing customers want to know. For some quick highlights of what’s new and different between Photoshop/Premiere Elements 2021 vs. older versions, check out this comparison overview page.

Hi ProDesignTools,
(1) It seems Adobe continues to make good use of its Macromedia.com domain for hosting Photoshop and Premiere Elements trial software.
(2) Though it may not be an appropriate place to make this comment, I believe this is very important, particularly for this website and possibly some users of Adobe software.
On Friday 16th April 2021, Charles Matthew “Chuck” Geschke, one of two co-founders of Adobe passed away aged 81.
Chuck leaves a huge legacy as the co-creator of PostScript and the PDF format, with the ubiquity of the PDF format testament to how Chuck and Adobe have revolutionised all our lives for the better.
Chuck Geschke was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1939 and enjoyed a successful career in maths and technology long before co-founding Adobe. He taught mathematics at John Carroll University in the 1960s, before completing a PhD in computer science at Carnegie Mellon University in 1972.
As is often the case with the humble beginnings of today’s mega-tech firms, Adobe was founded in a garage – the other co-founder, John Warnock’s garage, to be precise. The startup was originally named after the stream that ran behind Warnock’s home in Los Altos – Adobe Creek.
Chuck was Adobe’s COO from 1986 to 1994 but retired in 2000.
In 2009, Chuck was awarded the National Medal of Technology by Barack Obama for his outstanding contribution to the modern world.
Perhaps ProDesignTools, you can blog a post about the life and times of Chuck Geschke – a fitting obituary for a humble individual, as stated by his wife, Nan Geschke, “He was really a humble, humble man – I can say that, as his wife. He was very proud of his success, of course, but he was very circumspect about how much he had to do with that.”
Hi Stephanie, so good to hear from you again!
Yes, we saw the news of the passing of one of the greats, Adobe co-founder Chuck Geschke, and were saddened.
Adobe Co-Founder Dr. Geschke Passes at 81
ProDesignTools’ founder worked in Silicon Valley in the 1980s and remembers when Adobe was just getting its start with PostScript and Acrobat. It’s been a long road! But Chuck was a class act all the way and will be sincerely missed. Who says nice guys don’t finish first?
Thanks so much for your post and for adding to the backstory. We really appreciate your ongoing contributions to our site!
Lovely tribute to Dr. Geschke by photographer Doug Menuez on LinkedIn.
We miss him already…
Four times I’ve gotten a bad download of the Elements 2021 installer.
It’s a big download, but we just tested and it still works fine here.
We’d say try with another computer or a different Internet connection. If you’re using Wi-Fi, make sure it’s strong and fast – you can check with speedtest.net
I wanted & selected Adobe Photoshop Elements 2021 as the download, but instead got Adobe Premiere Elements. When it did appear on my Desktop, it was as a Folder not an Application.
I’m downloading Elements again from your website. If it also opens as a folder, how do I get it to be an Application?
Hey Leon,
On Windows, you’re downloading a ZIP file, which is a package of folders and files…
Unzip that (right click on it) and then look in the directory that’s created for a “setup” file to install the application on your computer.
Hello! A couple of months ago I installed Abobe Photoshop Elements 2021 from your website and began using the free trial. My time limit on the free trial is up but I want to continue using it. Is there a way to purchase a serial number? Adobe Photoshop Elements 2021 is the most recent version compatible with my operating system so unfortunately, I cannot use 2023 on my computer. Thanks for your help!
Welcome Kristin, thanks for your question and wish we could help! However, it’s true that Adobe sells only the latest release of Elements.
Meaning, you cannot purchase a license or serial number for any other version than the current one, which is Elements 2023.
Sorry – that’s Adobe’s policy, not ours.
These older, official Elements 2021 installers that we link to are mostly useful for customers so that they can reinstall previously-purchased software on a different computer, or if they misplaced their disc or installer file, etc.
Wish the news was better for you. Maybe there’s some way to upgrade your operating system?
