I have a macbook pro and I’m looking to get photoshop cs6 extended student, I was wondering how do I know adobe accepts my school?
And it was said earlier you can use the serial on up to two computers – but I’m getting the impression I only have this software for a year? Or is it forever on my computer?
And is there a time limit to use the serial number?
And how do I receive the serial number?
Hey there Katelyn, you can ask Adobe Customer Service if you want to see if your school is eligible… via live online chat is usually fastest/easiest.
The software and license never expire, there is no time limit – once you buy the product, it’s yours – and you can use it forever on your privately-owned computer, even after you graduate, and even for commercial purposes.
The serial number comes direct from Adobe after you validate your eligibility online.

Thanks!
Hi, I’m currently a student with 1 year left – if I decide to pay monthly for CS6 (currently £16 per month in UK) will this rise to the £48 per month after I graduate, or will any software that I download continue to work after the year’s contract? Many thanks for any replies
Hi Phil, that’s a great question. With the traditional versions of Adobe Student & Teacher Editions (as described above), you validate your eligibility once when you purchase them – a single time, and then the software is yours to use permanently, including after graduation.
With a Creative Cloud education membership (currently on special for US$19/month for the first 12 months), all students and teachers also need to revalidate their status once per year at each annual renewal to retain the academic discount.
So answering your question, after your graduation the subscription cost would revert to the higher (regular non-student) monthly price when that year is up. If you cancel your membership, the software you downloaded and installed will stop working. Essentially you could think of it as renting vs. buying the product.

I have a question. I have the CS6 student edition I think and have both the mac and windows version. I would like to know if I can run my windows and mac versions at the same time?
Thanks,
Wayne
Hello Wayne, it’s unclear from what you said – do you own the CS6 Student & Teacher Edition for one platform or two?
But here is the answer to that:
How to Install or Run Adobe CS6 on Both Windows PC and Mac OS
I teach at an upstart school. We’ve just been accepted and accredited to start a Digital Marketing program and we want to teach Photoshop along with video production and editing. We are installing a Mac lab with (I believe) 25 27″ Macs… with licensing, would it be possibly for us to take advantage of the discounted pricing to load each of the 25 computers with Photoshop at the cheaper price?
Yes Adam, you should be able to buy multiple seats for your school with a large price reduction – see this page:
Adobe Discounted Volume Licensing for Education
We also have a feature article on this topic that may be helpful to you, explaining all of Adobe’s volume licensing programs in more detail.
I would like to know if there is difference between Adobe Suite CS6 Master Full Version and Student, Teacher. I have at the moment the Adobe Suite CS5 Master full version Student & Teacher for Windows, and I am trying to see what will be the best version to buy for my Mac computer.
Thank you
Greetings Ioana. Whether for Mac or Windows, the programs and features are the same between the two editions – it’s just the purchasing and licensing that are different, as outlined in the article above…
Bottom line, if you’re a student or teacher (or could become one), then there is really no reason that you shouldn’t take advantage of the huge discounts Adobe gives you.
If I purchase the CS6 Student and Teacher Edition, can I install it on both my personal MacBook pro and my iMac if using the software at different times?
Yes, you should be able to do that Niki – see:
How Many Computers Can You Put or Use Adobe Software On?
Can you distribute the program, once you have it, to more then one machine? I have a MacBook on which I want it for primarily as I’m on the move a lot, but I also have an iMac at home which I’d like to put it on.
Can I do this?
Yes Jack, you should be able to… See:
How Many Machines Can You Run Your Adobe Products On?
Hi, I’ve read that only one license comes with the photoshop cs6 student edition. Does that mean if I get a new computer someday after graduation that I won’t be able to re-install the software because its already on my old laptop?
Welcome Jordan, it’s true that you receive one license no matter how you buy Photoshop – however, please see the previous comment just above yours…
You can also easily move the software between computers.
Ok, so just to be sure after reading the article: this license can only be transferred once, correct? Let’s say I install it on my laptop now, then get a new laptop after graduation and transfer the software to that one, that’s my limit? If I want to transfer again eventually, I will have to re-purchase the software? I’m just checking because I want this software to last me forever and the rate at which computers die and crash these days, it’s likely I will have more than one other laptop in my lifetime. Thanks!
You should be fine Jordan – the software you purchase now should be able to moved indefinitely and last forever without having to repurchase it…
Adobe used to have a hard limit on the total number of reactivations you could ever do, but they say that is now removed.
Thank you! Clear and concise!
Hello,
I currently have Lightroom 1.0 on a Windows laptop. I am planning to buy the Adobe CS6 Master Collection and I am not sure which version to get.
I have a Mac Mini I am learning to use that has dedicated graphics (256 MB VRAM). I am also building a powerful Windows machine with a powerful video board (Quadro 2000 or 4000).
I think the performance will be better on the Windows machine with the more powerful processor. Is there a way for me to run a license on each machine to evaluate which environment I would prefer?
Or, is there a way to change the software from Windows to Mac or vice versa without buying another license?
Thank you.
Hey there Charles, thanks for your question. The answer is easy. Just download the free CS6 trials for both platforms, and install them on both operating systems on both of your computers, running side by side…
Then see which works better and faster for you during the 30-day duration of your trial – and purchase accordingly.
You want to try to get it right from the start, but if not then (to answer your second question) it is possible to switch machines later by doing a platform swap (or “crossgrade”) with the current version.
Hope this helps! Feel free to post back if you have any further questions.
Happy New Year.
I apologize for what seems like the same question but I have been to both Office Max and Staples and was told the same thing.
I am going to take some web design courses at my local college and want to buy CS6 Web Design. I have been told by the above sales people that the student teacher discount is only good for one year. (They are reading off the side of the box.) After the year is up I need to revalidate that I am a student and pay the cost of the software again. This just does not seem correct.
What I want to do is buy the software and validate one time and have it forever on one computer. Hopefully both sales people are incorrect.
Greetings Dennis,
You’ll be relieved to know that what both of those stores told you is wrong wrong wrong! The regular Student & Teacher Editions never expire or stop working, and don’t ever require re-validation. It’s pretty stunning that they would both tell you that, without having any true knowledge or understanding of the answer, but maybe that’s what happens with random salespeople.
You will find the truth directly from Adobe, which is the only place to go:
Adobe Education FAQ and Rules Guide
Hope that fully answers your question, if not then just post back!
Thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated.
Sure Dennis, glad to help. It’s possible that the people you talked to were confusing Adobe’s traditional academic editions as described here (which work permanently) with their new Creative Cloud Student & Teacher version which is an year-to-year membership-based program that does require annual revalidation of education status to continue the subscription at a discounted rate.
I am a student and it asked me to put my year of graduation. After my year of graduation will the software still work on my laptop?
Yes, as mentioned in the article, Adobe’s student versions have no expiration or time limitation – and will continue to work even after graduation.
Once I buy the student version, will I have to rebuy it every year? Or is it that once it’s been installed, that is the full product for as long as I want to keep it?
Hi Ian,
For the answer to that, please see the conversation with Dennis just above about this same topic.
Bottom line:
The traditional perpetual (permanent) Adobe Student & Teacher Editions are purchased once at a significant discount and do not require revalidation, ever. These are what’s described in the article above.
Alternatively, Adobe’s new Creative Cloud for Students & Teachers option (bought via annual subscription) does require yearly revalidation of academic status to retain the lower membership pricing.
Both offerings can be used by education customers on their private computers for commercial purposes if/as needed.
Hope this clears it up!
Thanks very much!
I recently purchased Adobe CS6 Design Standard from a reseller on Amazon.com and had only noticed when the box arrived that it said “Only for distribution in North America.” I do not live in North America and my previous Adobe ID for CS3 is registered in the UK & now I live in Africa. Will I have problems registering this new CS6 under my current Adobe ID?
Hello Nike, we very strongly recommend against resellers on Amazon – and our best advice would be to return it without opening or touching it, honestly.
Thank you for your reply. The only problem now is that I had opened the box before realizing the matter. What other options do I have open to me now in this situation?
Not sure, wish we could help. It’s definitely not a good idea to install/open your computer to software that you’re not absolutely 100% certain the genuine source of… It’s often very difficult to determine fake software until it’s too late.
You really have to contact that individual seller and demand to return it given the circumstances. If he/she doesn’t cooperate, you could threaten to leave negative feedback plus take it up with Amazon directly given the circumstances. You could also stop payment on your credit card for not receiving a legitimate or legal product.
Contacting Adobe Customer Support for their advice may be another option. Good luck with it, and be careful!
What is the primary difference between the Student/Teacher Version vs Full Version?
Hello Debbie, did you read the article above? There are a few important differences, but they’re all laid out in detail there… If you have further questions, feel free to post back.
Hello,
I am a college student with a little less than a year left. I have been working with the software on campus computers, and recently started working at an advertising agency (also using their computers). I just saved enough money to purchase Adobe CS6 Student and Teacher Edition.
My question is, being that I will have to work from home on agency projects from time to time, will I be able to take advantage of the Student Edition and use it for commercial use (A.K.A. my advertising agency)?
Yes Daniel, with the Adobe Student & Teacher Editions you should be able to use yours after you graduate from college, university, or high school – as well as use it for commercial purposes anytime so long as it remains installed on your private computer.
Good luck with your studies!
Hello,
I recently enrolled in a Community College to take a Photoshop course online. Is it possible to receive a student discount?
Thank You!
Welcome Andrea, that’s a good question. Does the college meet Adobe’s accreditation requirements? If so, and you’re enrolled for a course (even online) and have the documentation requested on that eligibility page, then you should qualify.
If you wish you can confirm with Adobe customer support directly – the fastest and easiest way to reach them is usually via Live Online Chat.
Hope this helps!
I have a friend who asked me to help inspire her 12-year-old son whom she homeschools. After learning that he likes to write, I suggested that they consider purchasing an InDesign product. My question is, what would be the best way to introduce him to InDesign? I suggested they get the CS6 because he loves computers and will no doubt grow into all of it, but at the age of 12 I would like to find a teaching video that is very basic, and will start him off slow and easy. Can you suggest something?
