So I downloaded the files from the (Windows/English) After Effects Cs4 and the extra content. What exactly is the extra content? And total files I have are four – 2 being .exe and other 2 being .7z, what are the .7z files? And do the .7z files need to be finished downloading to install or run the program?
Thanks for the help,
Austin
Hello Austin, for examples of what’s in the extra content, see this earlier comment and response. For the rest, see the second paragraph in the main article above. Thanks.
HELP! I had switched my laptop to WIN7 and downloaded CS4 web premium with no problems. In 3 weeks time I had 4 total system crashes, and each time was able to download again with no problem. after the 4th crash I decided my system was having issues with WIN7, so I reinstalled XP media center which came with laptop…no more crashes, but I can’t download. I’ve tried almost a dozen times, and each time it says download complete, but when I click on the installer it tells me that there was a problem loading setup or that some of the file is missing or corrupted and to try and reinstall. I thought maybe it was a registry prob. so I tried a different cs4 but got the same results. If you can’t help me, is there a way to buy the cd or get it through FTP. I have codes for it, but don’t have the disks. I appreciate any help you can give.
Hey there Mike, sorry to hear of your troubles – sounds like a real pain. The direct links here are the only genuine versions of the older software that’s available via Adobe – you may find it elsewhere, but the safety and authenticity could be a question mark. Torrents are especially risky, and potentially hazardous to your computer’s health. So before looking somewhere else, you might first try a different browser, computer, and/or Internet connection (including making sure you’re using a wired connection and not Wi-Fi).
If you read through the previous comments here you’ll find other tips and solutions too, which have helped others work through issues that they’ve had. Good luck and hope you get it to work.
hi, i’ve downloaded the files (both) but when i try to open the .exe file for photoshop cs4 it just flashs up the black download screen then closes within a second, any help would be great thanks.
That’s sounds really strange Lee and wish we could help, but have never heard of anything like that before. There’s either something wrong with the file or with the computer.
Try some of the techniques in the other comments to download it again and see if you get a better result. Also make sure your computer doesn’t have a virus somehow. Good luck.
I’m signed in, per the instructions, but I still get a page that says I need to sign in to resume my download. I can’ t seem to get around this page to actually download (trying to download design premium cs4)
Hi Sarah, if you’ve carefully followed the instructions in the article and still are getting the “resume your download” page from Adobe, see if the suggestions in this other comment above help you out – thanks.
when i click the download link it just takes me to the adobe website and there’s nothing to download
Hi Mario, please carefully follow the instructions in the article and make sure you’re not blocking any cookies or site access. If still no luck, try a different browser, computer, and/or internet connection. Thanks.
I got it thanks @ProDesignTools
hi i’m having a major problem, here are the steps i take: 1st i downloaded it (both files in same name and put in same place) then i clicked on the .exe file and it extracted the files so i go to the extracted file in a different folder and it starts the new setup, but when it loads it stops and says this “Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe customer support for assistance.” what is the error how do i get rid of it so i can continue? plz respond
Greetings Michael – yes we’ve seen that problem from time to time… It has to do with the particular configuration of your computer, rather than the files themselves.
You should be able to find a solution by trying the suggestions on one of these threads: here, here, here, or here.
This page is a great resource… once I install a trial CS3 product (InCopy CS3), how can I purchase and activate the product without upgrading?
Hello Chris, thank you for the kind words. While finding the safe and authentic trials for the older software is easy here, purchasing the permanent versions is sometimes more difficult. Except for After Effects CS4 and Premiere Pro CS4, Adobe itself no longer sells versions prior to the current one, CS5.
[Update: There is one way to still buy some older versions direct from Adobe.]
So your best bet is to look for an authorized Adobe Reseller or retailer, for which there is an official “Find a Reseller” list (grouped by country, state or province).
We strongly advise against buying or downloading Adobe software from any untrusted source or unknown site. There are a ton of fakes out there, laced with hidden malware that will damage your computer or compromise your private data – which can often be far more costly than the value of the software itself. See just a couple of examples of this here and here. Be especially careful with random independent sellers on eBay, Craigslist, Amazon, and Buy.com, or with sites you’ve never heard of. Just stick to the official list and you’ll be OK.
I can’t download anything directly from the site, it redirects me to adobe. Help?
Alex, if you’ve carefully followed all the instructions in the post and still are getting the “resume your download” page from Adobe, see if the suggestions in this other comment above help you out – thanks.
I really don’t know how to download these things, I have a trial version of Cs3 but I need after effects to enhance my editing… can somone help me please
Hey Steven, just start by following the step-by-step instructions given above, and then read through the previous comments if you run into any difficulty, or leave another comment with details. Thanks.
@ProDesignTools
Do I need an account with Adobe?
Yes – and sometimes if you’ve tried everything else but it’s still not working for you, using or creating a different/new Adobe ID account will do the trick. That’s been the case for a couple commenters previously.
hi its me again, i just thought and i was trying to download cs5 maybe weeks before i tried this and it told me i need a 64-bit comp and now i got to this and this need a 32-bit comp which i have so will i still get the error “Setup has encountered an error and cannot continue. Contact Adobe customer support for assistance.” with cs5 on my comp?? so can u send me the cleanup tools for both suites so i can have a fresh start and try again… thx in advance
Hello again Michael – yes, CS5 does have some “64-bit-only” components, namely After Effects CS5 and Premiere Pro CS5… But all the rest of CS5 (as well as CS4) will run on either 32-bit or 64-bit systems.
If you want to completely clean up any previous CS5, CS4, or CS3 installations, first uninstall them with Windows Add/Remove Programs, and then run Adobe’s Creative Suite Cleaner Tool. Hope this helps.
ProDesign… Thank you very much. Am downloading AE CS4 now will download Premiere Pro CS4 later.
Hi Sunit, thank you for the kind words, and it’s our pleasure to help out!
Good luck with the software, and if you want to get the full/permanent versions of those two applications, see our purchase advice here.
I can not install adobe after effects cs4. It says that i need 62 bites. I downloaded Trial 1File and 2File :( .
Hey there Octa, what is the error message you’re getting? Please review the instructions and comments above, and then enter the exact text of the message for folks to know what’s not working, and possibly help… Thanks.
Well, I have all of CS4 Design Standard installed on my mac lap, with 7 days left on my trial.
Even though my CS3 is on a different mac here at home, I consider it an upgrade on a student license, if I wanted to purchase.
Well, I tested as if I was going to purchase, to see my price, but was sent, of course to a CS5 suite purchase
(kind of, right back where I started).
Well, I do not have the right system for CS5 right now (thanks to Adobe)…it is the reason I grabbed 4 in the first place….can’t find it anywhere else!
NOW what do I do, as I cannot upgrade any higher now….and it is all nicely installed….?
I need the cs4 desperately.
Greetings Heidi, the Mac platform doesn’t have any 64-bit issues, so guessing you can’t run CS5 and need the CS4 Design Suite because you have a PowerPC processor – and you should be able to get it.
To purchase CS4, see our recommendations in this comment or read this article on how to buy older Adobe versions.
@ProDesignTools
it says : “The minimum system requirements listed below are needed to run Adobe After Effects CS4 Template Projects & Footage and are not met : This product does not support PowerPC architecture CPU
Please upgrade or adjust your system to meet these requirements,”
BUT it didn’t say what to upgrade or to adjust
Hello Octa, After Effects CS4 for Mac is a bit different and only runs on Intel processors, not on PowerPC processors… After Effects CS3 is the last version that ran on PowerPC processors. We do have both versions available on this page, fortunately.
Sigh. You just took me to where I started.
I tried, today, for a long time today to find the software or license on the Adobe list of resellers, but I could be doing it for days!
No one has the software, that is trustworthy….nor the license.
They are all gone because of the predicament Adobe put mac users in.
No one in my situation will upgrade to cs5, if they are like me, unless a ton is spent on a new system.
I simply want a license for the trial purchase. If it is downloadable, it must be able to be purchased.
I have appreciated Adobe, for many years. I think my loyalty is being tested.
Hi Heidi, we understand and appreciate your situation. It’s a bit of a predicament as you say – except for AfterEffects CS4 and PremierePro CS4, Adobe no longer sells the older versions direct – and it’s challenging to find safe and authentic purchases of them elsewhere… Definitely avoid downloading with unknown or untrusted sources – the only safe and legal place to ever download Adobe software is via Adobe’s servers.
[Update: There is one way you can still buy prior releases direct from Adobe.]
Some folks have had luck with buying secondhand via sites like eBay or Amazon, although generally speaking we don’t recommend those sites. Only purchase the boxed product, and look for new or like new. Find a seller with a high feedback rating and good communication, and ask questions about the item. Make sure the product is genuine, complete, unregistered, and unactivated or fully deactivated. Also make sure it is not a student edition (nontransferable), or was used by the seller to upgrade from to a newer version.
If you’re buying from a third-party website, look for a website that you’ve heard of, and check out where they’re located and registered, etc. But be careful because there are quite a number of unsafe sources out there. Bottom line, thoroughly fact check whatever site or seller you’re considering.
As to why Adobe doesn’t sell older versions once a new product is released – we have asked and generally it has to do with limitation of sales and support resources. They want to focus and marshall all energy on the current versions, advancing and evolving forward. It would be great if they reconsidered this, but for now that’s the way it is – although maybe you’d have more luck trying yourself or leaving your feedback. For now, we can provide you the free trials here but not the easy means to purchase them.
Regarding Adobe dropping support for Apple/Mac PowerPC systems in new releases, it was unfortunate but it appears the machines were considered too old in the modern day to invest significant resources in, and became a cost-benefit decision, regrettably.
Hope this helps and good luck.
I had the problem of getting the “resume download” screen. Using suggestions from the comments, I installed FireFox to use instead of Explorer and created a new Adobe account. I’m not sure which one did the trick, but I was able to download on the first attempt after making these changes. So far so good…now to see if it installs properly :) Thanks so much.
Hey Halfway, you’re very welcome and glad it worked out, and well done figuring out how to get it going.
hello, i have a big problem
i downloaded the two files and put them in one folder, but when i open them they say ‘the file archive part is missing. please download all parts.’
but i have already downloaded both parts! help!
Greetings Andy, for that message see this earlier comment and response, plus the page linked from there. Hope this helps and feel free to post back if you still run into difficulty.
PLEASE HELP! I was trying to download Adobe Photoshop CS4, and whenever I click the link I get sent to the “Resume your Adobe download” page. I logged in clicking Remember Me. I created a new account after first wasn’t working. I tried relogging in each time. Nothing is working. Please help me!
I’m sorry I cleared my Cookies and Cache as well and its still not working
@Alex
I can’t see my comment now (I’m so sorry this is really frustrating xD)
I cleared my Cookies and Cache, I logged in to adobe, I clicked remember me, I made a new account, signed in, clicked the link over and over, but all I ever get is the “Resume your Adobe Download” page. Help please. (Last Time I’ll post, promise. XD)
Hello Alex, take it from other readers that it does work if you can figure out what’s tripping you up…
If you’ve carefully followed all the instructions in the article and are still are getting the “resume your download” page from Adobe, see if the suggestions in this previous comment above help you out – thanks.
Hey there, May i ask what the extra content is in the adobe after affects CS4 trial please? Thanks…
Howdy Bobby, for examples of what’s in the extra content for that product, see this earlier comment and response.
@ProDesignTools
Hello, thank you for replying back. I’ve visited the comment, and tried everything (Enabling 3rd party cookies, installing a download manager, clearing cookies and caches and restarting, trying a different browser, trying a different account, trying a different computer, etc) and nothing is working. I know this works because I’ve downloaded a free trial of Adobe After Effects CS4 and Adobe Flash CS4 from here and it worked perfectly. I don’t understand what’s going on…
Us neither!
The best suggestion now is just to wait a little while… This fellow had a similar problem which apparently solved itself on its own after a bit of time had passed (see the first three comments from that link).
I have tried everything, I cannot get Flash Pro CS4 downloaded. I have tried everything the instructions said. It just brings me to the screen that says login. I can even see my name where I am logged into Adobe. But it still will not download. Is there another way I can download it?
Thanks
Hey Zach, the files definitely still work – we just double-checked them. Clear your cookies, clear your browser cache, try a different browser, computer, and/or internet connection, and read the series of comments just above to see if those help – thanks.
