Re: Adobe Application Manager (AAM) patches – AAM_1.0_mul.exe and AAM_1.0_mul.dmg

Mark, the Adobe TechNote document you referenced was posted on our website before the files were placed on the proper servers. This is being corrected, however if you don’t want to wait, send me an email (lhawkins at adobe dot com) and I’ll see if I can find a way to get the files to you.

  2. There is still no link to the Adobe Application Manager patches on the page mentioned above (just text). When will the AAM patch be available???

  3. I apologize for the delay! It turned out that the files were too large to attach to the document and we are uploading them now to an ftp server. This should be resolved by Tuesday 26 July. I’ll follow up on this thread when we have a working link in the tech doc.

  4. Thank you very much to Kirsten, Laurence, and other members of the Adobe team for looking into this and helping to provide the missing patch files! It’s great to see the downloads available to fix the problem on that Adobe TechNote page now, and hopefully that will close this chapter until the patch can permanently make its way into the main CS5 code for the next round of updates.

Thanks again and everyone here very much appreciates your timely assistance.

  5. Hi, Im thinking of buying Adobe CS5 and I would like to know if my processor would be suitable for it. It’s a Celeron (R) Dual Core CPU (1.80 GHZ)
    Its a Dell Inspiron 1545.

I’ve been trying to look up online but could not find any answer. I hope you could help me,
    Thank you in advance,

    regards.

    • Hi Sinda, thanks for your question. If you look at the system requirements for most Adobe CS5 products, they specify an Intel Pentium 4 as the minimum processor. The Celeron is lower-end and doesn’t officially meet that specification, and performance numbers for that notebook generally are fair. However, the system isn’t all that old (18 months or so), so in our opinion you should be able to install and run the CS5 software, but with the caveat that the speed may not be the fastest. If you can live with that, OK – and worst case you can possibly add some cheap RAM to help improve the performance, and/or transfer over your CS5 license to a new machine should you purchase one in the future.

The best suggestion would be to just go ahead and download and run the free trial for the CS5 product you’re interested in, and see how it does for you for 30 days, making any observations or adjustments as necessary. Hope this helps.

  7. I have been trying to install the trial version of InDesign for almost a week now and with absolutely no success. I have had only rudimentary standard advice from Adobe when I can squeeze it out of them but all to no avail. The installation repeatedly stalls with Error Code 7. I have tried everything suggested – restart under safe mode, switching off Bridge, using the advisor tool, redownloading the files, uninstalling the partially installed but aborted trial etc etc. It is just one big frustration and I have bought into Serif PagePlus just so that I have a product to use. It is difficult to believe that it is Adobe that is trying to sell an expensive product to me. BTW I have Vista 64, 8Gb RAM, oodles of disc space so that isn’t the problem. I do have Photoshop CS5 installed and I am very reluctant to uninstall that since it is working fine.

    • Hello Bob, sorry to hear of your difficulties with the CS5 trial installation. If you have already tried the “Exit Code 7” links just above, plus all the other suggestions on this page, then that’s about the extent of the technical advice we can offer for this problem at the moment…

We are seeing a fair number of “Exit Code 7” reports (e.g., google “CS5 exit code 7”) and there are people at Adobe that monitor this thread, so perhaps one of them might be able to weigh in. If not, you might try contacting someone like Adobe’s engineering head Barry Hills directly, with the invitation and email address he kindly left on page 1 of the comments here – it’s something to consider when all else fails.

Hope this helps and please keep us posted on your situation, we’d like to hear if you’ve found a solution.

  8. I’m afraid I didn’t have the perseverance of the person on Adobe Forums. Having done all the obvious steps I had wasted enough time as it was. Whether or not it is Adobe’s problem or Microsoft’s, it is Adobe’s very expensive software they are trying to sell. I have to say that I have not been impressed with their support in this matter and have decided that Serif PagePlus x5 does all that I want and more so I will stick with that rather than risk further problems not to say money on InDesign. I am a serial updater of Photoshop so it’s not as though I am not a regular customer.

  9. Bob,

I’m sorry to hear that you had to give up on InDesign CS5 due to the installation error. Unfortunately error code 6 or 7 itself doesn’t indicate why it’s failing, only the installation log file can tell us the reason, which then allows us to advise of the solution.
I have reached out to you via email, in case you still would like us to look at the installation log file.

  10. I bought the Adobe CS5 upgrade and when I try to install it, it tells me to close Adobe Bridge (Bridge.exe). I can not see it running – how do I close it?

    Reply
  11. @Kirsten, thank you for following up. It sounds like if someone gets Exit Code: 6 or Exit Code: 7 and the tools listed on this page don’t resolve the problem, then they should contact Adobe Support directly for further assistance.

@Loy – thanks for your question. Fortunately that installation issue is easily addressed – see this KnowledgeBase article:

please what could be the problem and how can i resolve it?

    • Hello Charles, sorry to hear you’re having difficulties… What exactly did the blue screen say, the text of the message? Which CS5 product are you trying to install and where did you get the software from? (download/disk)

Have you tried any of the troubleshooting steps and suggestions in the article above, and what were their results? Have you been in touch with Adobe Tech Support at all?

See the response just above your comment for more ideas… thanks!

  13. Hi,

The past couple times I opened Illustrator CS5, I received the following error message:

Adobe Illustrator has detected a problem in the windows registry which needs to be corrected for Illustrator to work properly. Would you like Illustrator to correct the problem now?

When I choose ‘Yes’, it directs me to the program and everything seems to be in order. However, when I close to program and open it again, it’ll give me the same message and so on. Is there something I need to do? It continues to work fine but the minor hiccup worries me that there might be a bigger problem I’m ignoring.

I don’t know if this might have anything to do with it, but I first downloaded the trial version, and simply typed in the serial number after I bought the product instead of uninstalling and reinstalling it. I also have the Student/Teacher product if that makes a difference.

Thanks very much for your help; it is much appreciated!

    • Greetings RML, thanks for your question… It wouldn’t make a difference that you have the educational edition, or that you converted a trial version into permanent by just entering the serial number – all those are no problem.

But, here’s hopefully the solution: try running the program as Adminstrator in Windows and see if that helps! (it should)

See here for the instructions how.

  14. hello sir!

  15. I have just purchased CS5 Standard and CS5 Premium for my studio. I’ve bought the Standard suite to run on four Macs and the Premium suite to run on two other Macs.

Can I swap the two PhotoShop Extended versions from the two Premium suites to the Macs that have the Standard versions, and then load the Standard versions onto the Macs with the Premium suites?

    Reply
    • Welcome Phil,

You can’t swap individual components of Adobe CS5 suites between machines – the single-key licensing is integral for the bundle…

But you could readily move or switch the entire suite between computers. In other words, you could swap CS5 Design Premium and CS5 Design Standard between two (or four) of your Macs.

Hope this helps! For multiple users, we also recommend Adobe’s easy business license store, where you can get volume discounts on the software plus easy license management.

  16. I have tried installing CS5 from the Disks and also downloading it from the Adobe site. I also tried to install it on my laptop. Both the desktop and the laptop get to a certain point, 7% and then the Akamai downloader says to Insert CS5 Disk1. Firstly, from the Disks, I was using Disk 1, so why is it asking for something that is in the drive? I even tried putting in Disk 2 and it won’t continue no matter what I do. I am running Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP2 with all new updates installed. Can anyone help?

    Reply
    • Hi Estelle, sorry to hear about your troubles with the installation… Which exact product are you trying to install? Have you tried any or many of the troubleshooting suggestions given in the article above, and if so, what happened?

Also, are you saying that you’ve tried both the disks and the download on two different computers, and have gotten the same exact problem in all four instances?

If you’re using the Adobe downloads, and get a message to “Please insert Disk to continue” during installation of CS5, this could be the issue (and solution):

Installing Downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS5 Trial – Insert Disc?

Thanks and hope this helps work through the problem.
