Thanks for sharing news about the release of Elements 10!
I noticed you refer to new features in Premiere and Photoshop Elements “9” when listing the new features, but in fact they are the new features in 10.
Thanks,
Allison
You’re welcome Allison – and thanks for the catch! That’s force of habit… the article has now been corrected!
Shoot!
I just bought Photoshop Elements 9 only two weeks ago! And now 10 comes out. Is there anything I can do?
Hi Bummed, not to worry – if you bought version 9 that recently then you should be able to get a free upgrade to Photoshop Elements 10…
Adobe isn’t officially offering a “grace period” for free upgrades to PSE/PRE 10, but if your purchase was within the past 30 days then you can accomplish the same thing yourself.
Just return the software you purchased directly to Adobe (even if opened or installed, and even if bought from somewhere else like a reseller). Just make sure to deactivate it first.
Adobe will then refund you your full money back, and you can apply that towards the purchase of (or upgrade to) Elements version 10. If you like, you can download the free trial first to get started right away.
Hope this helps!
Actually we have learned that that Adobe is offering a grace period for free upgrades to Photoshop Elements 10 from version 9, and the “grandfathered” window it goes back to is September 3, 2011:
[Quote] “If you purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 9, Adobe Premiere Elements 9 or the bundle of both products after 9/2/2011, you may be eligible for a complimentary upgrade.”
So, if you purchased after that date, it will be a bit easier to use the exchange offered – otherwise, go with the first method described above which should cover back up to 30 days for the return and repurchase.
Thank you for the helpful overview. Are floating windows back in Photoshop Elements 10, after they were changed in PSE 9?
Greetings Cara, thanks for your question. Yes, indeed there’s the checkbox in Edit > Preferences > General for “Allow Floating Documents in Full Edit Mode” and once you select Window > “Float All in Windows”, the floating windows setting will stay (instead of tabs) as the default and lasting behavior when opening new or multiple documents…

I am going to buy a scanner (probably Epson) with a software bundle that includes a PSE DVD but the box, specs and ads don’t say what version is shipped inside. I’m not buying until I know either what’s inside or whether the company’s bundling can be upgraded.
Hello Mark, thanks for stopping by. Elements 10 is only available from Adobe at this point, so it’s not likely to be the latest release that’s bundled with a scanner… It may not even be PSE 9 for that matter – as often these hardware manufacturers bundle an inexpensive older version just to be able to say that “it’s included.”
Hi,
Couple of questions. Does anybody know if there is a full HDR option (like CS4/5 etc)?
Also does anybody know if the Lightroom 3 integration is better (e.g. highlight 3 photos in LR3 and send to PSE10 as layers, as you can do with PS CS4/5, etc).
Welcome Rob, see this forum post which addresses your questions, and there’s also a companion article which goes into more detail on the feature differences between Photoshop Elements 10 vs. 9.
I’m in Malaysia and I want to buy PE 10.
Can I buy it in my country, and what is the price after conversion to the Malaysian Ringgit?
Hi, Adobe has dozens of online stores all around the world, and they are all linked from their International Store Selector page… From there customers can easily purchase the software delivered directly to their local addresses.
If you don’t see your country there, then you’d have to try to find the software elsewhere like from a reseller or retailer. Thanks and good luck!
I want to buy the Adobe Photoshop/Premiere Elements 10 Bundle Upgrade – do i have to have a previous version first, or would I need to purchase the Adobe Photoshop/Premiere Elements 10 Bundle Full version instead?
I guess the difference I see is in the price, the upgrade being cheaper. Which should I purchase??? I do not have any at this time.
Hey there Renee, thanks for your question, and it’s a common one… If you don’t have any previous version of Photoshop or Premiere Elements, then you’d need to purchase the full version.
For someone that owned any previous release of the Elements product line (dating back to version 1), then that person could buy, install, and use the less-expensive upgrade package.
Hope this helps!
Hi,
I’m new to Photoshop. Is there a way that I can make the program NOT automatically put my files in libraries. I like my files EXACTLY where they are, and I don’t want to have a duplicate set of files out there taking up space that I will never use. Thanks.
Howdy Sue, actually Photoshop doesn’t move or copy or duplicate your files at all – it leaves everything where it is and creates a catalogue to work with your photos where they live.
If you’re new the program, then our related article might offer some help:
Four Hours of Free Tutorials for Photoshop Elements 10 & 9.
Okay, I’m insecure. It appears that ALL photo manipulation programs “automatically find and organize all the photos on your PC instantly when you install the program.” I’ve got about 12,000 photos in the RIGHT places. You’re SURE that that will NOT happen with Photoshop Elements 10?
Yes, we’re sure. The “Organize” is virtual, not physical.
You can read the free PSE 10 documentation online if you’re unsure, or if you just want to learn more…
Thanks. I was misinformed before then. Now I’m much more interested!!!!
Hi. I have a previous version of Photoshop Elements, but not of Premiere Elements. Can I buy the combined Photoshop/Premiere 10 upgrade version? Or do I need prior versions of both apps?
Great question Gazzah!
Yes, you should be able to upgrade to the PSE 10 Bundle containing both products, no matter which single previous application you own…
I just bought the complete adobe photoshop and premier. I have not use any photoshop software before, so is there any site to learn how to do things? appreciate any help
Yes Norma, definitely! Check out these four hours of free tutorials for Photoshop Elements 10, and that should help you get started…

Hi! We just bought an iMac (today!) and I’m wondering what options I have with regards to getting my PSE 8 on there. It seems as though the version I have is not Mac compatible. I’m content with this version now and was trying to avoid having to pay $100 to upgrade it for the Mac version (or possibly $50 if I can get a Cyber Monday deal). Thoughts?
Hi Angie, Photoshop Elements 8 was supported on Mac OS with a subset of features that the Windows version offered, but it sounds like you may not have the discs or licensing to move it to your new computer.
We do have the direct download links available for the Photoshop Elements 8 trials on both platforms, if that helps. Your serial number may still not work, however.
As for Adobe’s Cyber Monday deals – yes, they are going for a little while longer if you want to buy the new Photoshop Elements 10 for half price.
Hope this helps!
I just came from Adobe’s online offer (last day is 11/29) and bought at half price both Photoshop + Premiere 10 combo together and the price was $75 plus shipping and tax. Best deal I could find. Must be Black Friday & Cyber Monday week.
https://prodesigntools.com/adobe-black-friday-cyber-monday-offers-deals-coupons-2011.html
I am hoping to take advantage of the half price today (I currently have PSE9 and PRE)…question, when I download the new combo …will it replace my current version and move all my files?
Fortunately it’s no problem Denise – you can install and run each version of Photoshop Elements independently, side by side without interference – with the option to convert over your photo catalog if/when you desire.
The exact same goes for Premiere Elements.
@ProDesignTools
Well, my new Epson V600 scanner just arrived and it came with Photoshop Elements 9. I was happily surprised.
Hey, that’s great Mark! Thanks for letting us know.
Hi, I was wondering if Adobe Premiere Elements 10 has a video available that explains the basic layout of the editor and the basic editing tools.
Yes, absolutely Kaylee – please see:
4 Hours of Free Video Tutorials for New Photoshop Elements 10
I have Elements 9 and all of a sudden i’ve been unable to upload the last two cards from my camera. One is a card from my Nikon D-90 and the other from my Panasonic LX – 2. in both cases it says there’s been an error:
0X80010108.
I tried to load but it doesn’t let me. Any ideas?
I’ve bought Elements 10 but don’t know if it will help in this case.
Hello Bela, that looks like a Windows problem and not a Photoshop Elements one…
Try the solution on this page – and please let us know how it turns out – thanks!
Please tell me the difference between Adobe Premiere Elements & PhotoShop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements & PhotoShop Elements 10 Student & Teacher Edition.
Thank you
Sure Cindy – just see this article:
What’s the Difference Between Adobe Student & Teacher Editions vs. Regular?
Please explain how I may drag the tab files down into the work format viewing area. The tabs appear in the upper part of the viewing area but I can’t drag them down. I hope you can help me.
Thank you,
Clarence Stewart
Greeting Clarence, thanks for your question. If you’re just getting started with the program and want to learn more, why don’t you try these four free hours of tutorials for PSE 10? That should get you going on the best foot.
I own Photoshop CS5. As such I don’t have any specific need for PSE for myself. I have friends with PSE 10 who have questions on how to use the product. Is there a path for me to also have PSE, for the sole purpose of helping others, at minimal cost?
It’s an interesting idea Paul, and wish we could give you a positive answer there – but in over five years of partnering with Adobe we’ve never heard of anything like that… Usually it works the other way around, as you know.
This may be helpful to you and your friends in “aligning and contrasting” the two products:
What’s the Difference between Photoshop CS vs. Photoshop Elements?
Hope that helps and thanks for your thoughts.
I am new to anything PS.
Just got PSE10 and PRE10 bundled together.
Do I load both programs? Or do I only load PSE10?
Do I need one to run the other?
Thanks…
…. and I have 5 (?) CDs …. Do I load all of them?
Normally I am WAY savvier about this stuff!
Thanks again.
Welcome Kathlene, thank you for your questions. For the answers, please see this earlier comment and response from Juli – thanks.
So, my photos would be available in two places.
Through the Adobe Elements catalogue in Elements 10, AND through the Directory search, as I do now??
Yes Basia, but there is still only one copy of your photos on your disk… The Elements catalog maintains a collection of thumbnail references to your existing photos, not a second copy.
Hi! I have Elements 8 and love it, but I really like what I see in Elements 10. If I upgrade to Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 / Premiere 10 Bundle, will I lose anything in either of the programs since it’s “bundled” together? Also I have over 37,000 pictures, how will the Organizer hold up to all the pictures? I need a good organizer that will help me find pictures fast! Thanks in advance!!
Hi Jen, thanks for your comment. You won’t lose anything at all – in fact you can try out the Elements 10 bundle and see how you like it, run it on the same computer if you like, even import your existing catalog… Just see this comment from Phil and our response for more details.
