I have a student master suite cs3 for windows. Now i am switching to mac and considering how to proceed. I can run the existing programs using a simulator but it is not the best option. I wonder if it is possible to upgrade the suite to the mac version?
I am ready to pay for the upgrade but not too much. The usage is small. Is there any reasonable option available?
Hey there Pekka, Adobe does provide the ability to “crossgrade” Creative Suite from one operating system to another – but you have to have the most recent perpetual version, which is CS6.
CS3 is from 2007 and too old for that option. In fact, CS6 upgrades are no longer offered for CS3 even on the same system platform, however you can still upgrade to CC* with a 40% discount.
As you said, you could possibly run a Windows version on a Mac using simulation, virtualization, or dual-boot, but there would be other issues to consider with that.
* Note: All Creative Cloud subscribers can run the CC software on up to two computers of any operating system.
this is awesome, the retail version is too expensive for $3000 that most students or users can’t afford it !
student and teacher edition is a great choice for us – I bought one, it is amazing and working great
Your link in ‘…up to 70% off – including for the CS6 Student & Teacher Editions.’ doesn’t lead to any student prices but the normal versions of CS6 products.
Thanks – Adobe is still offering the CS6 education editions if that’s what you want… If for some reason you aren’t seeing the lower CS6 academic pricing given there, then just click on “Student and teacher pricing ›” at the far right of that page.
For CC 2014, the new Black Friday education offer rolling out today is even better than what we described in the article above – Adobe’s best student/teacher price ever in fact – and you can get that here instead.
Hi,
I’m looking to purchase the full adobe suite at the student-discounted price for my MA course (All though really I only need Photoshop, After Effects, and possibly Illustrator). I was wondering if:
a) I’d be able to purchase just the programmes that I need in a bundle off Adobe, and
b) If my license will run out after my course is finished or will I be able to continue using the software after I graduate so that I can keep working on my portfolio?
Many Thanks.
Hi Jane, to answer your questions:
a) No, Adobe offers just three options for configuration: the complete Creative Cloud (which is the bundle that student and teachers are offered with the discount), a Single-App Subscription (like Illustrator or InDesign or After Effects just by itself), or the CC Photography Plan which includes Photoshop + Lightroom. You can combine these, but it wouldn’t be cheaper than just buying the full education offer (where you get everything).
b) No, your CC license does not expire when you graduate or finish your courses or school. All Adobe education plans are paid (or prepaid) on an annual basis – so your student/teacher license would end when your 12-month subscription term does… However, because Adobe considers eligibility documents to be current if they are dated anytime within the past 6 months, then it may be possible to renew your plan at the EDU discounted rate even after graduation (or leaving school).
Hope that helps!
I’m a student and need Adobe CS5 or CS6 for my classwork. But I do not want Creative Cloud. I want the disks. How can I get these?
Sure – as mentioned in the article above, you can still buy the CS6 Student & Teacher Editions direct from Adobe…
You won’t get the “disks” or boxes, because those haven’t been made for years – but you definitely will still get the traditional perpetual (permanently) licensed version of CS6 (via direct download), if that’s what you want or prefer.
This guide may also help in your decision:
Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) or Adobe CS6 – Which Should You Buy?
@ProDesignTools
Yes, I prefer the permanent download (but admit I’m a little disappointed by not being able to have an actual disk).
Roughly how much should I expect to pay? Ill need indesign, Photoshop, dreamweaver, illustrator, bridge. (Windows 8.1 OS)
Also, I’ll need acrobat. Would this be separate?
Feel free to email me.
Well, the answer’s simple – the latest releases of all of the creative tools you listed (and many more) are included in the Creative Cloud Complete package, which for students and teachers discounted by 60% off the regular price at $19.99/month for your first 12 months, and then $29.99/month thereafter.
For non-education customers, the same bundle costs $49.99/month (with 40% off if you’re a prior CS customer).
All plans can also be prepaid annually in advance if you prefer, and/or paid using PayPal instead of a credit card.
If you want to go with the older CS6 instead, then you can take a look at the different suites they have… The CS6 Design & Web Premium Suite would have the applications you mention and costs $599 for education – but be aware that this version is now 3 years old and not being upgraded any further, nor being supported on future operating systems.
However, Adobe does still sell CS6 direct – but not sure for how much longer:

Bottom line, it’s your choice which way to go!
dear Admin, any discount for student ???
Yes Sana, they are all detailed in the article above, and you can purchase the education versions direct from Adobe – just go here for CC or go here for CS6.
If you have any other questions, feel free to post back!
Apologies but its all a bit confusing for this older-aged student who needs Photoshop CC 2014. Please help direct me to where I can purchase this. Many thanks.

Can Win7 Pro and Win 7 Ultimate handle the same amount of physical memory?
Yes, so long as they’re both the 64-bit versions.
Hi, i need premiere, photoshop, lightroom and after effects….. 50 quid a month seems too steep when i don’t want any of the other programs, what can i do? I’m not a teacher or student, and the only other option is buying each program at 10 quid each per month equating to a total of 40.
Please sort this out into a new package.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Peter, but nothing has really changed from the Creative Suite days. Before when you needed several tools, you bought a CS bundle called a suite – which usually included more programs than you needed (and technically you also paid for those). In both situations, then and now, at least you have the opportunity to expand your skills and learn new products that come with what you bought.
Can just Photoshop and Illustrator be purchased in the version CS6?
Hi Julie, thanks for your question. Sorry, Adobe ceased selling CS6 on their website last summer… The reason is because it’s nearly 4 years old now and increasingly unsupported; they stopped releasing updates for it some time ago as the newer CC quickly grew and took over. With the CS6 software EOL and end of support, there are no updates, no bug fixes, and no guarantees it will run on future operating systems. So at this point we’ve stopped recommending it as a good or viable option going forward.
Adobe offers Creative Cloud for Education instead, which succeeded CS6 and gives you the latest releases of all major creative applications (including Photoshop and Illustrator):

Hi, I bought the CS5 for my grandson a few years ago and now he is in his final 2 years of High School and needs it. I am having trouble trying to get a serial key for it. He has his student ID for this year (photo). I don’t know how to find the product code on the box or which site for him to register?? any help would be appreciated
I forgot to tell you that I bought this at a retail store and that the country is Australia if that makes any difference – the retail stores have since gone out of business, but my name and number are on the box, I have since lost the paper for putting my grandson’s details into.
Welcome Sharon, see this guide for help –

Hi, I teach Digital Media at a school in Sydney, and I’d like to subscribe to the Adobe suite. I have just one question: once I start subscribing, can I cancel my subscription if I don’t need it anymore, or am I locked into a contract?
Greetings Jacob, thanks for your question. In order to secure Adobe’s substantial student/teacher discount, the subscription length is one year at a time (12 months) for all education customers.
So you wouldn’t be locked in for any more or less than that, and can cancel online before renewal if you don’t wish to continue your paid membership.
Adobe also offers Month-to-Month plans, which are available to all customers, and cancellable at any time.
But even if/when you decided to cancel your Creative Cloud plan, you would still retain the free (for life) level of CC membership.
If that doesn’t fully answer what you wanted to know, then just post back.
With CS6 at EOL, it sure would be nice if Adobe finally threw us a bone and added an “app” that many would use… an updated Encore that would allow us to author and burn DVD’s without resorting to 3rd-party products.
FYI the original reason for not updating Encore proved false. Discs are still in use, SD-DVD, Blu-Ray and now 4k and 4k UHD. Could even create a menu wrapper for flash-based video files.
Please spread the word and get this fixed!
Bill B
Hey Bill, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Although it hasn’t been updated in a few years, you should know that Encore CS6 continues to be available to Creative Cloud subscribers (it is included in the bundle at no extra cost), and Encore CS6 works together with the Adobe CC tools like Premiere…
See this Adobe Knowledgebase article for how to do it:
Download, Install & Workflow: Using Encore CS6 with Premiere Pro CC
On top of that, here’s a good overview video that should also help when combining the two:
Note that you may not install Encore from a trial account, only from a paid CC account (which is due to third-party licenses).
@ProDesignTools
Thanks, we are all aware of that link… But saying that CS6 is “available” is like saying my CS3 discs are “available” to install on Windows 10. No updates and EOL mean compatibility issues. No updates means it was not that stable even on the OS it was written for. However I can play with a beta of face animation or 30 other “apps.”
We have seen that CS6 Encore link since the original outcry after it was dropped. It does not really solve the issue for anyone using a current OS… How about just giving us a program that completes the workflow?
After paying monthly fees for what 3 years, should we have to cross our fingers and hope using an EOL product in order to produce media?
I don’t think I am the only user that feels this way…
Bill B
Sure Bill, completely understood. If you have feedback for Adobe or encounter a technical issue that makes it unusable for you, then we would suggest delivering it directly to them here:
They definitely listen to customer feedback so if many users feel the way you mentioned, and if enough people ask, it could give positive results.
PS – Although the common belief on why Adobe cancelled Encore is the notion that “optical media is dead,” the truth is more complex… Here is the real reason why:
Here’s Why Adobe Had to Stop Developing Encore
So unfortunately, Adobe would have to write a completely new product, being careful not to duplicate copyrighted code that they had previously licensed. Which helps explain better what’s happened and why Encore wasn’t upgraded further.
Hello, I have a question :D
I’m thinking about buying the student package at 20$/month and i’m thinking about using it with my room colleague (20$ is still a lot in my country taking in consideration that we are not making any money out of it).
Will we be able to use like adobe premiere pro cc on 2 computers? or at least for example : i’m using adobe premiere pro cc on my computer and my colleague is using photoshop. Will this work ?
Thank you !
Hello Andrei, check out this post and it should answer all your questions:
How Many Computers Can You Install or Run Adobe Software On?
Hi,
My student card expires in a month. Will I still be eligible to get the student discount for the whole year?
Thank you
Georgia
Hi Georgia, thanks for your question. The answer is that you can continue to use the CC education version that you have (or purchase) through its full subscription term, even for commercial work or professional purposes… The product does not expire because your student ID or status expires.
In fact, according the Adobe’s student/teacher eligibility rules, verification documentation from anytime within the past six months is still considered “current” for proving your academic status. So even though you may finish your school studies or graduate, you can still use your software – and even renew it with the education discount for longer, if it’s within six months.
Hope that helps!
Hi,
I am a student and I need photoshop for my photography course. I was wondering if I can get just photoshop at the student price?
I was also wondering if it is like a monthly payment or if I would pay it upfront?
I was also wondering if once I bought it at the discounted student price, if I would be able to keep it or if I only have it for a certain period of time?
Hey Izzy, the best deal for you would be to get the Creative Cloud Photography Plan, and that package includes both Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC.
There is no lower student/teacher pricing for that bundle. The cost is the same for everyone – in the U.S., for example, it’s $9.99/month.
Also, there is no plan that includes just Photoshop that costs less than that. Basically you get Lightroom as a bonus.
Finally, all CC software is offered via monthly or annual membership. It’s no longer possible to “keep” the products as it was with the old Creative Suite tools; with Creative Cloud, it’s always a time-based subscription.
The last release to still offer a “perpetual” purchase option was CS6 back in 2012, and that software is end-of-life; Adobe no longer sells it.
Hi,
I am a teacher in primary school, is it possible to get Photoshop for $19.99 monthly? How should I prove to them my profession status, since I have only a school contract and it is not written in the English language?
Thank you in advance.
Please see our previous response just above. Anybody can get both Photoshop CC + Lightroom CC (with ongoing upgrades) for half that amount, for just $9.99/month… You don’t have to be a student or teacher for that offer.
By contrast, the Creative Cloud education edition is for All Apps (everything included) and is discounted 60% to US$19.99/month for the first year, for students and teachers.
Check out this helpful Adobe Eligibility Guide that should answer any other questions you may have.
How to get benefits from a student card. Please let me know about this.
Thanks
Greetings Hemendra, what more can we tell you that isn’t covered in the article above?
In other words, what question(s) do you have, in particular?
Thanks,
Great post!
@Peter tyrrell
I agree with you some people want more than one programme, but not the ones/optioned off in your bundles. Should charge programmes at a set cost of maybe 10 each, then you can decide which ones to purchase. I pay 9.98 per month for PS and LR, but I want video-making software too and I need to pay another 20 to get it. I don’t want or need the other stuff, nor need or want to learn about the other programs.
@Bedford
Some good points raised here. I have the Photography Plan at £9.98 per month (thanks Adobe for screwing anyone not in North America, as always). I’m increasingly shooting video and would like to add Premiere Pro and Audition. Don’t want to be locked into a 12-month contract, so the additional outlay turns out to be £60 per month which is ludicrous when they offer ALL apps (most of which 99% of the population don’t want) for an additional £15 per month.
They certainly worked the numbers on this one. If they can offer so many apps for £75 + Stock etc., why is it £30 for a single app?
Yes, I have Premiere Elements and could use that, but I trained in Adobe apps since the early 90’s and Elements is just such a frustrating and time-consuming experience compared to Premiere Pro.
They should offer single apps for, as others suggest, around £5-£10 per month, as not everyone is eligible for the EDU discount. I don’t condone piracy, but can understand why many people are turning to “dodgy” copies of the software.
The other problem with the Cloud is the aspect of once you stop paying, you effectively lose the ability to access anything anymore. That is, if I understand how it works correctly. So as in my case, I “rent” Lightroom (though I have an old Version 1 copy I bought when it first came out, but wouldn’t be able to go back because the database isn’t compatible) and whenever I stop paying for it, I’m basically stuffed.
Actually, everyone can continue to run & use Lightroom Classic even after a free trial or subscription expires, just not with the Develop and Map modules enabled. For more details, see:
What Happens to Adobe Lightroom After My Membership Ends?
